Morning All and Evening Kim,
Actually I heard from our Kim, she says her boy is a bit better and back to work now but still coughing. She takes ten of the Horse Pills a day but they don't help with her energy levels.
Dusting, hoovering and loo cleaning on the agenda for today as our company will be down early tomorrow morning.
Am hoping to get to the last page with this posting so we'll see!
Hope everyone is well as can be expected today. My hands ache today.

Same old same old, took me ages to get here. What on earth is going on with GR?
We had a lovely day yesterday. Carmel sister and her chap were over from Ireland on a whistle-stop. We took them over to our granddaughters place at Atherstone yesterday for a BBQ. Our two great-grandchildren were in great form and delighted with so many people to help them play. I drew the line at going in the trampoline with them! It was a bit confusing when we were leaving, Maggie who is only three wanted to know where we were going. So when Vera & Brian said they were going in the aeroplane back to Ireland (today) and we said we were going home, she was going round to each of us saying 'you're going?',' you're going?' bless.
Right time for brekky, maybe catch you all later depending on GR.

O Jane your Mr Tattyhead has his curler in as he is moulting.
Lovely clear pic Jane.
Ann glad Gordon's eye test was ok. Give him my love please?
I don't think I have heard of Orange Pound Cake either.
As to the scones I would cook them and cool them and pop them in the freezer. I do this and they are ok. I get them out and defost them and then pop them under a hot grill turning them over after a min or so. Don't let them get too brown though. It brings them up like newly baked ones. I do it with mince pies too.

Frank, ..... 'where were you'......was to be my next question. lol. The newspaper place, big blue building with a thermometer on top, is where my photo entry has gone. They seem to be painting some of the buildings in bright colours now. Me, I like the old buildings, like the station building you passed, they restored that recently. Conrad does travel a long way for a trim doesn't he..........they must do it very well for him!!
Fiona I doubt they would even be able to let Katherine know that quickly, even though it would be great, especially if there were quite a few applicants. It may well be different there but we used to have to score and weight each application as well as each interview. Our marking, comments and decisions had to be able to stand any scrutiny if there were any complaints.
I have to smile about the 'Head nurse' Fiona........sounds like she's the boss, but I know what you mean!! It sounds a difficult thing to treat with it being inflamed nerves and any nerve pain is horrid. You need nice steady temperatures I think.
OH is at a match tonight and taking his dad with his walker. He's tried to make it clear to him it may be difficult to reach his seat in the stand, even with the lift and reminded him that the toilets aren't close by, but he still wanted to go. My concern is that he may fall.....not good with his osteoporosis, but you can't tell a 92 year old what to do can you!!!
MIL has been to the docs today and will have taken the letter about a Thalassaemia test. I will be interested to hear what she told OH about it when he gets home.

I have been having trouble getting on GR like everybody else,
Yes keeping fingers crossed for Katherine, even if they would ring her after and say no sorry, that at least would help the situation, instead of wondering for days after.
cloudy and no sun today rained most of the day, but not cold.
I'm of for a shower & wash my hair,
Still waiting for a phone call from the head nurse

Here I am. !!
What a job getting on here, yes Jane I had 38 emails when I got home. A lot were rubbish, and some I just could not send Not even to Will and David.
We had a nice afternoon yesterday sitting around chatting. Conrad cooked last night, and I was in bed by 10.30 pm for a read. Had a fair night, and was up by 8.30 this morning.
Conrad had to go to Leicester this morning ( FOR HIS HAIR CUT) I can't believe anyone would go that far. Anyway I went along for the ride. While he was in the hairdressers, I found a coffee shop with tables outside in a precinct and say with two cups of coffee and the paper for an hour, lost myself going back to the car, and had to back track. Fortunately I found my way back, or I could still be walking around Leicester. Ann, don't ask me where I was, cause I don't know. We passed the Leicester Newspaper building and the railway station.
When we got back home about 1.15. I took then to the WHEATSHEAF pub just round the corner. Their hanging baskets were a sight to be seen full of blooms and colour. I had a couple of pints, while the others had non-alcoholic . The girls had Scampi, Conrad Ham Eggs (three) on was a double Yorker all with chips. I had a massive steak and ale pie, with puff pastry top. chips and peas. When we got back we say out round the pond watching the Bumble and honey bees on the plants. We got home here about 5.00 pm.
Glad Hannah has started to look for a "house share" It would be difficult, as she's not a party girl, to be in a house with three others who are. (I wish I was 50 years younger)
Ruby, It seems you have a great goings on, cooking only two or three times a week., and freezing it. Good Idea for someone on their own. Your "GIRLS" party sounds as it should go off with a bang. Photo's please of the hats.
David, get the flea treatment out and dab them behind the neck (not with the CHOPPER) and it should soon clear them up.
Mandy do hope you OH is copping alright with the news of his brother. What a shock, when you aren't expecting it.
How's those chicks doing Mel. ?? and do you still have your snake ???
It's been another beautiful day today, and looks like a nice evening.
Going to raid the fridge, and see what I can find !!!

Had to collect prescriptions from the docs this morning as they were closed this afternoon.
We have the annual Buckland Filleigh Dog Show here on Monday too so oh has been mowing the top field where it is held and the garden and orchard too.
Jane I thought the flat they had was Hannah's to start with??

I used to climb on the bath to reach the gripe water in the cabinet and steal little sips lol. Yes Dinnefords it was Ann .It tasted lovely.
Ruby you are going to have a lovely party with all your 'girls'. .I think scones can be frozen ok.Would love to see a pic of you all dressed up in your bonnets
I must have had a funny turn today.Have had a blitz cleaning and washing floors. Some places like in the back porch where all the shoes and big welsh dresser is was just a mass of webs.Under the dresser was like a load of candy floss Then I discovered a problem in our ensuite.I pulled out a free standing floor cupboard next to the shower cubicle and put one foot in the corner as I thought it looked soft and the floorboards there are rotten .Water has obviously been seeping out .Even the bottom of the skirting has been eaten away . Why do all our troubles in the house seem water related !!!!!!!!!.Leaks, floods we have had it all.
Good OH's eyes are ok Ann and the drops didn't last long.Ruby I hope your test goes ok too.
When does our Frank get home .Did he say how long he was going to Rutland for ?Nice for him to have a break from the cooking We are just having Pasta tonight and I will add some bacon lardons and diced mushrooms.I think I have some garlic bread in the fridge too.
Frank must be home I have just had an email pop up from him.

Your party sounds good fun Ruby! I would enjoy making a hat like that. I'm not sure about your scones and the freezer, never tried that but it may be ok. I would freeze them ahead uncooked on a tray and then bag them in the freezer I think. You would have them all ready then to just defrost and pop in the oven. Mind you I'm no cook, but its what I do with mince pies!! lol I've never heard of orange pound cake, but it sounds good!! I hope it stays dry for you.

Yes,I'm getting eaten alive Ann.
I call them both DICKIE as they are identical. Actually one's a tom and the other's a she.
The other adult cat is being frozen out by the Mother of the kittens.
Sometimes when Ive been to the optician I just buy the lenses if I'm happy with the frames I have.Found a place that does the lens so so much better at a very affordable price.
It's cool and breezy here, but the sun's out.

Afternoon
Oh, so they are little fleabags are they David. Hopefully with treatment the beasties will soon be gone. Yes, I bet you melt a bit when you see their sweet little faces......nothing cuter than little kittens!!
Well, we didn't get the printer.......it sounded a bit of a faff to set it for card......so we are having another think!! OH's eye drops didn't blur his vision for long and the results were fine so he is pleased about that........now just to hunt for new specs he likes.......MORE EXPENSE as F would say!! Three out of four of the pay and display car park machines weren't working today........by the time you've tramped from one to another when it's hot you feel worn out.
That's a good way to cook Ruby, it's always nice if you can cook extra or something else as well for another time. I like the sound of fried Okra. I often see it for sale on our market but didn't know what to do with it!! I might get some now and try that. What is your eldest grandson studying?
Jane I'm in shorts and strappy top now........I was so hot while we were out earlier!! Still, the washing is all drying nicely.
I suddenly remembered last night that the gripe water my sister had as a baby was Dinnefords.......the name came into my head and then that it was the gripe water......why should that spring to mind like that I wonder?? It seems when you think of nothing, all sorts come to mind!!

Hello Jane and all,
I haven't been up for long!!!
I have to go for my annual eye exam today, and it suddenly dawned on me last night, that I wouldn't be able to drive myself because I won't be able to see when I come out, so had to call my sis. I always have to take her.
I am planning a tea party for this coming Saturday - just our family. The fellows won't come. It's not their idea of fun. I used to have them when we were at the old house. It had huge rooms and wide porches, and was perfect. This house is modern, much easier to take care of, but much smaller. I have a screened porch on the back of the house, so if it's not too hot, some of us can use that. GD helped me make some invitations on the computer. She has it in an old fashioned frame with flowered wallpaper behind it. It'll be a lot of fun. We dress crazy and wear hats. I'm going to glue silk flowers around a straw hat.
I was wondering how it would be if I made scones ahead of time and froze them, and then just re=heated them in the oven. Would they be good? I'm going to have fresh strawberries and cream. Dau is making the sandwiches; sister is making trifle and sausage rolls, and I'm making orange pound cake, fresh fruit salad, and madeleines. Also punch for those who don't drink hot tea. Am I missing anything?
I believe we have had the wettest summer ever recorded here - every afternoon we get rain. It has certainly helped to keep the temp down and made the summer more bearable for me.
I do hope Fiona's Katherine had a good interview, and that Jane's dau. is able to find a nice place to live. I envy Mel living out in the English countryside like that. I've often thought that I should have married a farmer.
Bye for now, Rubyx

Yes fingers all crossed for Katherine tomorrow.
Mandy, it seems like AUTUMN has arrived doesn't it, although it's supposed to be very hot again by friday around here. Today the garden centre was piled high with boxes of christmas stuff ready to be opened!! Aarrggghhh!!
William, OH has done a bit of clearing out in the shed and garage today too. It's bin day tomorrow so he's put out a pile of flattened cardboard boxes for them. We can actually SEE straight through the garage now, but we really need to go through EVERYTHING in there......what a job that will be!!
I spent ages at PC *orld today, sorting out a new printer that will tick all the boxes for us both. I was lucky to get a very helpful young student who really knew his stuff and he showed me one that does everything we want, is cheaper than I expected and will fit nicely in the space where the old one is. We are picking it up tomorrow when I drive OH to his eye test that needs eye drops. Hope he'll be able to see what he's putting on his plate at the carvery after!!
Frank should be in Rutland having a relax now!! I must get over there again sometime for another ride on the Rutland Belle on Rutland Water.
That's good that Hannah has felt able to make a start looking for a flat share Jane. It will help when she has sorted that out and has her own 'base' again.
Off to bed now.......hope the dog next door doesn't wake me tomorrow....it was 6.00am this morning. I think she just lets him out when she gets up and leaves him out till she's ready to set off for work so he doesn't get in her way.

Mandy ,one house she has seen sounded great but she says she doesn't think she can afford it.(need to find out from her exactly what is what). The second house was 3 30year something girls who think they are students and like to party a lot,so that was a no no.It's early days .Just the first day of looking . How strange you have no birds .They are definitely all here lol It's just crazy. But lovely .One of the Robins is so friendly but looks so tatty.I wondered if it might be my old' Buster'.I can get within a foot of him and he just sits and listens to me talking to him lol. Chris and James just think I am a mad old bird woman .If my neighbour hears me ,then no doubt she would think the same.
I'm ready for bed now so will see you all in the morning x
Good luck for your daughter tomorrow Fiona !

I think all our birds must be round at yours Jane ,we haven't had many in the garden lately ,i though it might be that they haven't the young to feed now, i've had fat balls in the holder for a couple of weeks now and they haven't touched them .
Have you heard from Hannah ? any luck with the house sharing ?
The nights are really pulling in now ,dark here by half past eight ,i hate it when you have to close the curtains early .
Mel i haven't seen the hogs either ,for some reason it wouldn't play !!
