Yes, going to pour a glass of wine and say cheers to my dear old dad who's been gone nine years now.

Maureen Report 16 Jun 2013 16:56

14 eggs!!! that's a lot isn't it Mel.

I'll have a look at the settings for the printer if I can find them :-0 but it usually pops up with a message if the ink is low.

The sun is out, I wonder how long for quite fancy sitting out with a glass of wine I think I have earned it, I've cleaned the oven and the fridge today and then moved on to the windows.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 16 Jun 2013 16:41

Maureen it sounds like you need to renew the ink in your printer to me. You probably only have red and blue left in it!!

As to forwarding photos I have a hell of a job finding out how to do it when oh has been fiddling with my pc. He keeps telling me to put them on my desktop but when I send them from there they come to you in a zip folder which you say you can't open.

Had lost one of the bantams for the last two nights. I did'nt count them in night before last. This morning I only had a cockrel and 6 hens when there should have been 7 hens and yesterday I had been all round the garden with my BIG stick poling around all over the place. Still could'nt find the one that was sitting somewhere.

This morning when I let them out, one went rushing off to the east side across the orchard. I watched her and then blinked or something and she was gone!! I could'nt beleive it, how could she disappear so quickly. Well when oh got back from ringing this morning I made him a coffee and he went outside and came back in and said there were 7 hen banties out there. I looked and sure enough 7. One was acting a bit strange so we watched her.......for an hour!!!!!!!!!! One had gone over in the orchard on her own and when I went and looked there she was sitting on about 14 eggs. I have left her there till tonight when I shall go and collect her to put her away and maybe get the ark ready or put her in there on eggs I know will all hatch at the same time. And the saga continues...........

The router probably got overheated Mandy and when it had cooled down again was okay. Listen to me ..... as if I know anything about power tools ....... I'm a good gofor though, spent yesterday up in son's loft helping him, he is doing a loft conversion and we were pulling up the floor and taking out all the insulation. He gave me an all in one white paper suit with a hood to wear, and a mask. I looked like a forensic scientist, but it really did help with all that itchy insulation but I lost count of the times I bumped my head on the beams. Don't know why I bothered with the cross trainer that morning, I must have sweated pounds off up there.

One of my daughters was a real drama queen and had lots of paddies, I put it down to her Spanish side. the most effective punishment I could do was to banish her to her bedroom where she didn't have an audience, after a little while all these little notes would come floating down the stairs with sorry on them.

Oh has Ann gone off on holiday already, didn't have the computer on for a couple of days, Friday turned into a lovely sunny day and I spent it working in the garden then yesterday was the labourer for son. She's pretty good on computer problems, must ask her when she's back if she knows why I can't forward photos now and my printer has turned purple, the photos I was trying to print off all have a purple background :-( I'm hopeless at the technical stuff.

Another great set of jokes Frank.

Thank you for the lovely photos of your beautiful grt.granddaughter William.

Yikes Mandy smoke! that doesn't sound right :-S....yes purple washing is a nightmare .I dread the Berry time.
It is quite dark here now and the breeze seems to have to have dropped. But as for flaming June !!!!!!! what has happened to it????
I have just added the final things to the Normandy casserole and even picked my own Tarragon to go in :-D.All that needs to be done later is the rice and veg.

I started a book this morning (murder) and the first page talks of a body found on Wembury Beach..........Wembury .
is where I grew up.Mention too of the church on the cliff where Chris and I married and where I was in the church choir, plus lots of other places I know so well.It gave me quite a funny feeling.

It's a funny old day.Must be to do with the weather.

Maureen just got your email !!!!! Brilliant

I'm too late to say Good Morning ,so Afternoon All :-D
Yes a Happy Fathers day to all the Dads.I still miss sending a card to my Dad who has been gone 26 years now.
Chris had a lovely Tee Shirt and some fancy Harrod* coffee from Hannah and James gave him a bottle of Hazelnut Liqueur and daft socks 1 pair says I'm grumpy and the other pair says I'm Grumpier lol

Fancy Ruby ,you having relatives right near Mel..It's a small world.I wish it was time to pick our runner beans. How lucky for you to have yours now.It will make us all jealous.

Frank,Dirty Birds.Poor Ros .I know how she feels .I'm often having to shove things back in the machine. But then If I didn't feed them so close to the washing line it wouldn't happen.it's the Robins I think who like to sit on the corners of the line.
I hope you have a good BBQ.It's clouding over here now ,but pretty muggy I think.

I have bought a few summer tops this morning and a light cardi .All suitable for Venice :-D

Think it is time for a spot of lunch now. William have a lovely meal with family later.

Happy Fathers Day to all dads.

Morning All and Evening Kim,

The wind has dropped today and we have steady rain but the birds seem to be enjoying it. I have seen the Blackbirds hunting on the back lawn for tasty titbits and a pair of Siskins chasing each other around the garden and the trees. Well the male chasing the female. Think they are probably mating again as she keeps stopping on the lawn and wiggling her tail then they fly off into the orchard trees.

Hi to Ruby. I love growing squashes but are no where near picking any yet. They are only about four leaves in length at the mo.

As to Holsworthy it is only 9 miles from where I live!! Where do your rellies live please Ruby?? I used to go to Holsworthy every week for the shopping but they closed the shop and opened another Watr*se there and it was too expensive for me and they did'nt do the things that I bought each week so now I go to Bideford (13 miles) to shop at Morr*sons. There is talk of a Tes*o opening in Holsworthy. Wonder what that will be like?

We had our Fathers Day meal yesterday evening as neither of us are in touch with our children and oh dos'nt keep things like that so I did us a nice ribeye steak, chips, peas, toms and mushrooms with a nice bottle of red. He won't have known why but I do and thats what counts. My dad would have been 92 this year if he was still alive.

Fiona Matteo will soon come around to knowing nonna and nonno as children are so adaptable. Hope they have a lovely time in Italy. I am sure they will bring you back some lovely photos. I like the pick of your dad on your avatar.

Just popping in to say hello. Love to hear about your little hedgehogs. We have lots of oppossums here - unfortunately many get squashed on the highway. We used to have a really old frame house. We adored it, but eventually had to down-size, but we had many really old pecan trees, and one night when I was home alone, I heard noise outside and rustling of leaves. I got a torch and put it to the window, and there were two raccoons just beyond the window, looking for pecans. They were lovely to see. I also saw a chipmunk when we lived there, only the one. We often had turtles in the garden - the rascals would take a bite out of the low-growing tomatoes.

I picked a few runner beans yesterday, and am going to have more tomorrow. Am picking squash every day now, and also picked four little pickling cukes. They are lovely and crisp in a salad. Years ago when all the children were home, I used to make lots of different pickles.

I met a nice English couple yesterday, just as I was going in to the local Wal-M--t. It's always a pleasure to me to hear an English accent. I believe they said they were from Birmingham originally. Moved here a few years ago after retiring, to be near their son and family who were already here. The lady said she had learned to play golf and that they stay on the golf course most of the time. They were very tanned, and seemed very happy.

I went to our local craft store the other day. It's a great store; they have so much stuff for crafts and sewing, and wedding receptions, and seasonal home dec. stuff. They were putting out the Fall (Autumn) merchandise already.

Mel, what are purple podded peas? I wonder if they are what we call Crowder peas. The crowder pods turn purple and stick out at an angle when they are ready. I love them - they are sort of earthy tasting. Not really earthy, but they have a dense sort of flavor.. You had mentioned Rosemore in a post, and I looked it up and remembered that I have some cousins living in that part of the country. I haven't seen them since my wedding, and that was in 1960! I imagine it to be very beautiful there. I believe they live near Holsworthy.

Wish I could send you some of our warmth.

Does Chelsea have bunches like Violet Elizabeth ????......I love it when children in trolleys at the supermarket kick off.I just give my look and they stop (in shock) lol
I was really lucky with Hannah and James when out and about .They never had the real bad paddies.Bad enough ,but not too embarrassing .

Well I have been cooking away this afternoon .I realised the diced pork was just out of date so got cracking with my Normandy Pork for tomorrow. All cooked now .I just need to add Creme Fraiche and Dijon Mustard .It has taken 2 hours so I'm now late in cooking tonights grub.Rolled Brisket (pre cooked) just needs 40 minutes, with mash ,green beans, baby carrots, and broccoli ...Jess doesn't eat Beef :-S so is having Mussels ,crusty bread and whatever veg I'm doing. :-D
I better go and check on the beef.

If you get cats in your garden William and you want to feed the hedgehog you need to get one of those mushroom crates, the blue ones and cut a hole in one end about 5" wide and as high as the crate and put a heavy weight on top. If you feed under this a cat can't get in to eat the food.

Done all my watering and picked my strawberries. Put my purple podded peas in which I did'nt get done the other day. Potted on some Cosmos.

Hope Ann and Gordon are having some nice weather for their break.

William I have pm'd you what to put out for the hedgehog.

William Report 15 Jun 2013 17:28

Mandy, not the CAT is back - we have a whole host of cats who now think our garden is their version of the M25! I'm always banging the windows or running out and sushing them off. Some of them are really cheeky and will dare me to chase them off our property. Someone has told me a way to keep them at bay, which I am currently experimenting with. If it works I'll let you all know, but I add that it is no way harmful to them. Basically I love cats, just not digging up and using our garden as their toilet.

Glad you mentioned Just William. I read all Ricmal Cromptons books when I was young and used to think of myself of the William of the titles.

We always say she's putting her parts on or having a paddy , i will have to tell her she's a drama queen :-D :-D she sticks her bottom lip out and we tell her we could sit on her bottom lip :-D mind you it really starts her off if we do that !! i try to ignore her when she's like that.
She reminds me of Violet Elizabeth Bott in Just William ,where she says I'll scream and scream until I'm sick and i can you know !!

William , lovely photo's of Baby Olivia ,i bet you carn't wait to visit and have a cuddle.
Oh a hedgehog !! i thought you were going to say the CAT was back!! :-D

Well hubby has given the kitchen light a good clean now he's painted the ceiling , i couldn't believe how bad it had got ,the water was black !!,the florescent tube is so much brighter now :-0 :-D

William ,I am just the same .It could even be a little vole or something I see and I get excited too....Not rats though :-S.Hedgehogs are one thing we don't seem to see in our garden which I'm really surprised about.I would love to have a night time camera set up as there could be all sorts of creatures roaming in our garden.
Chris has had a nap this afternoon...I daren't tell him that I have been watching the bunnies !!!.
We have had the odd Muntjac( ?sp) and various Birds of prey, even 2 Parrots !!!.Our security light out the front comes on and off during the night ,so there must be some animal activity passing across our drive way.I often leap out of bed when I see the light on hoping to catch a glimpse of something.

After some heavy showers the sun is shining again .How long for though who knows .

William Report 15 Jun 2013 16:04

Hi all, glad you liked the photos of Baby Olivia, and yes we are proud, and yes she is a little smasher. We are hoping a bit later on we will make the trip to Skegness to see her in person.

I was just looking out of the kitchen window about 9.45 last night to see if all our solar lights were shining when I saw a shape moving up the path in the dusk light. I thought at first it was a pigeon then realised it was the wrong movement and shape and it waddled on towards me I realised it was a hedgehog. I shouted Carmel out of the front lounge to have a look and by the time she got there he was out of sight. Then the next minute he was rambling back down the path to the rear of the garden. Isn't funny how you can get so excited at a specimen of nature. I hope we see him again - any tips for what tit bits to leave out for him Mel?

Crikey Frank that's a lot of emails lol.I will look at them later when I have unpacked the food and been to the loo :-D
Mandy Tes** was busy here too.I even heard someone say it was like Christmas !.They were calling for all staff to the tills.
Never heard the expression Putting her parts on Mandy. It that like being a Drama Queen?? Nothing worse when they can't dip into the sweetie tin is there.I used to have one for my two.It was always full of Dolly Mixtures :-D

Well the wind is certainly blowing here, much too windy to sit out even though it is warm.
Thats sounds a great place The Bewilderwood.Never had anything like that in our day did we :-S.Our school trips were to Paignton Zoo ! with our packed lunches.
We must have had other trips but I can't think where.
I did go on some camping trips with Brownies and one Geography Camping trip up on Dartmoor when it tipped it down and a herd of cows knocked down our toilet tent :-S :-S..Not funny.

We had a nice letter this morning.......another good pay out for PPI :-D :-D :-D
