Snap Liz that's what I'm having for dinner although I have switched the tuna for salmon.

Having grown up in a very happy secure family I find it really hard to understand mothers who could be so cruel to their children. My mum was pretty strict but we always felt wanted and loved, and she took being fair to a whole new level, if one child had ten sweets that's exactly what the other one got, luckily for me my brother didn't like sweets so he used to sneak me his share too :-D

Alfie seems to be getting over his traumatic experience slowly, he is going out through the cat flap on his own but very cautiously and he walks really low to the ground.

Heavens Ann, your parents do sound very stern - Why though?! doesn't seem to make any sense to be so obstructuve an unkind for no reason. My MIL was exactly the same though with her children, playing one off against the other, causing loads of friction between them and even down to her grandchildren. After she died, she left my SIL's two £X, my BIL's two less £X and our two £0!!!! well! there you went! fortunately our two didn't give a toss, neither did I, but OH was angry and hurt (again!)
We have a small surgery in the village, and I must say they are pretty good by and large. Sometimes you have to wait a day or two if you want to see a particular Dr, but can usually fit you in same day if you are happy to see one of the others, particularly if, like you Ann, you have a particular problem. I think small is probably beautiful!
Making strawberry mousse for pudding tonight, otherwise, tuna and salad with jacket spuds - nice and easy!

I knew there was something else I was going to say. While researching my family history I found a lot of them lived in Six Mile Bottom :-0

Not long got home from daughters, had a very nice Vietnamese take away last night, enjoyed it more than Chinese, I shall be piling on the lbs if I'm not careful.

No work today Frank but will have to go out later to pick up ironing for tomorrow and then take that back and pick up another lot for Wednesday and that's it.

The greenhouse arrived before I got back luckily my next door neighbour took it in. Probably just leave it in the packaging until I have plenty of time to put it together :-0

Bought some lettuce seeds but couldn't find any celery so maybe I'll not bother with that. I get a bit carried away looking at all the different seed packets. especially the flowers but have limited myself this year.

I hate this system at the doctors for making appointments. They tell you to ring in the morning but you can never get through because it's always engaged and when you finally do get through all the appointments have gone.

I must look up what theatre and where it is before we go to Les Mis, my friends daughters can't believe how we always get lost wherever we go. There are so many exits from the stations and you can bet your life I will pick the wrong one.

Oh what a palaver getting on here this afternoon, round and round the houses FOUR TIMES Kept getting the error notice.

After speaking with the Doctor at lunchtime. He said what have we done so far. I was not in the best mood, so told him to look at my notes. He then ask have you completed the OXFORD KNEE FORM. I said, with respect, what the B####y hell is that when it's at home. After his explanation., I said I would walk up to the surgery and complete it. What happens then I ask ?? The Doctors at the surgery will then hold a consultation, to decide if they had any ideas of what else they could try, before referring me to the hospital. I am afraid I will not be fobbed off any longer. If I don't get a satisfactory reply, I am going to ask for a second opinion. With due respect to the Doctor. I know my body better than him, and considering I have severe arthritis, been X rayed and had Physo . What more can they do. CHOP IT OFF.!!

Sorry folks, I am not in the best mood this afternoon. There is so much I want to do but can't.

My computer is playing up like made. Advert after advert. Different search engine just appeared, and I am getting error notices, with everything I try to do. BAH BAH.

Hello everyone,
Thankyou all for your kind welcome. I left England in 1962 for the USA so don't always understand some of the topics on here, but am learning! It makes me feel as though I'm back in mum's kitchen and she and auntie Doris and our good neighbour from across the street are having a good natter. We always hoped to hear something juicy but they waited until we were out of the way.

Annx, what a frustrating day for you - perhaps it's a muscular thing. What an awful day for the poor receptionist.

Frank, I loved that smell too, of the chicken mash and hot taters - mum cooked the peelings. I can still remember the smell today.

William, I am very interested in your Carmel's treatment for her headaches. One of my grand-daughters, who is 28 has suffered most of her life with headaches. They were once few and far between, but for the past few years she gets full-blown migraines. They last for days and she usually winds up in the Emergency room. She hasn't even been able to work for the past year because she was constantly out sick. A few months' ago, they did infusions of drug cocktails. She had to go to the hospital and was fed intravenously with different mixes of medications. The headaches continued after each session. She now goes to a Pain management clinic and that doctor injects her with Lyrica (pregabalin), in the back of her neck. The next thing they're wanting to try will be at the Neurology clinic. He wants to try injections of Botox - again in the back of her neck. I found that hard to believe, but I looked it up and it is approved for that use. Apparently it would be expensive, so they are waiting for approval from the Insurance Co. It breaks my heart to see her suffering so.

I must go and get something done - I'm 5 hrs. behind you. It's too wet to do anything outside. I did put a couple of tomato plants in, the other day and sewed some cuke seeds and a few squash seeds. I just have raised beds now . I've got runner beans growing. I planted a few in a bed right next to the deck, and I have tied some chicken wire against the fence around the deck. I envision being able to walk out the door, reach out for a handful of beans, and straight in the pot!

I shall be thinking of you all, tripping around the maypole on Wednesday. Have fun.

Ruby.

Well, still no success ringing for a later appointment so OH whizzed me to the surgery. I queued while 2 people complained to the receptionist. They had been waiting for half an hour after their appointment time and wondered when they would be seen. The receptionist had to apologise as the doctor had come in late and she had been calling out the people for his first few appointments, but then stopped as people were put on the digital display system. She'd forgotten about these 2 and then told them they would have to wait another 40 minutes!! They weren't happy!! Then while she was dealing with me, 3 people, who had been sitting in the corridor marched up and asked her if the afternoon appointments had been released as they had been sitting waiting to make one before I even came in!! She had to tell them I had come in earlier this morning and that she didn't know what anyone had come in for till she spoke to them!! They weren't happy either!! Anyway, I'm back there at 3.00pm now, 3 trips for 1 appointment. Mel, I think it often is better with a smaller surgery.

Mandy, the car looks better than it sounded!! it just needs the bottom edge of the valance levelling up......a job for OH tomorrow. I'm just concerned really that it has happened 3 times now in about 10 weeks. I think they will end up being called out more at this rate!!

David, the pain with breathing is more in moving the ribs than within...... like when you would get stitch with running as a child. A dose of I*uprofen seems to have helped most and has eased it a lot since this morning. I mustn't moan though must I, you must have had so much more pain since your accident.

Frank, we must be related as you say!! M & D just mostly ignored the fact I was getting married, but I had to have all my stuff packed by a month before my wedding. I wasn't allowed to keep any of the things I'd bought for my 'bottom drawer' at home, they were kept at my future MIL's house. Suddenly I wasn't allowed to use mum's sewing machine to make any curtains either, although I had used it to make myself clothes before. My sister and brother were told they could have the dog I'd always wanted once I was married and gone. It was just to be spiteful to upset me as I'd always wanted one. As it turned out, they never got one either. I always knew I'd be paying for my own wedding, my parents said it was old fashioned for parents to pay, even though my grandma at age 70 saw to it that mum had a lovely white wedding, the first white wedding in the village since the war. We bought a new bungalow for after we were married, but mum made every excuse not to come and see it......she knew refusing would hurt my feelings.....that was why she did it. Even when I took the only aunt I had any contact with to see it when she came over for a visit, she couldn't persuade mum to come with us and couldn't understand it at all. That's how M & D were though. If something gave you pleasure or made you happy, they would spoil it if they could.

Mum was contrary and jealous of anyone else getting attention and all her life tried to play us children off against each other, saying to each that the others did more for her. She died alone in hospital because she told staff she didn't want anyone contacted. Her final act to put her children in a bad light and to curry sympathy! Thank goodness we grow up and move on!!!

Thanks for the FROST warning Frank, I shall be covering up my little plant beauties later!! :-D I hope you get a chat with your doc. It seems to be a medical day on here today!

Better get changed again for my appt now.....it takes a while..... and a few oooooohs and aaaaahhhhhs :-S

Liz it was me that said about tea for the eyes of dogs. It dos'nt amtter what tea it is and it dos'nt matter if it has milk in it either. I was told this at the PDSA when I worked there. All the vets recommended it.

Off shopping now so see you all later.

Frank, your mother's attitude to you sounds so like my MIL's to OH, quite unbelievable! My MIL was a very bitter jealous woman, on account of FIL leaving her for another woman, and went out of her way to take it out on her children partiicularly her eldest (OH). I can remember her waving him off when he was going away on a Carrier (yes we had them then!!) for a 10 month tour was about as much emotion as if he was off out for the afternoon! She disliked me on principle, didn't even send our children a birthday card, never mind us!! Oh dear, what a horrid lady she was! not only that, she lived to be 94, dying in an old folks home in Devon, where she referred to one of the staff as a N###!! luckily they accepted our aplogies, and treated that episode(and others!) as the vageries of 'that' generation and let it pass!!! My FIL was a Colonial Officer in India just after the war, after that he was posted to Africa till the mid 1950's, so you get the picture!!!!.
Mel, was it you who recommended tea for eyes? if so, would that be Indian tea or a fancy brand?!!!

Frank let me ask oh about what we have as I think it could be better than a freeview box. We have two of those but you can't get as many stations as on the one on the main telly in the kitchen. It's make is Humax and it is Freesat HD.

Frank Report 29 Apr 2013 11:31

It's me again.

I had a go at the receptionist (JOKE) It took them ages to answer the phone. I said "TOO LATE I've just had a heart attach" She saw the funny side of it, when I said who it was LOL LOL

Ann, are you sure we are not related.. Even when my dad died and I was in deep sorrow, I was never comforted by my Mum. When I went into my National Service, she just waved from the doorstep. On my first wedding day. She stood at her bedroom window, and shouted abuse to me as I got in my best mans car.

Many years later after getting divorced, and meeting Ros. My Mother would ring her regularly on a Sunday morning, when I was out having a pint with her dad, to ask "Has he asked you to marry you yet" When we decided to get married, we went to her house to tell her. Once again abuse poured from her mouth, to the point I walked out. It was many years later that I got a phone call from my brother to say she was going down hill. I took a chance and visited that Sunday afternoon, on my own. The next morning she was DEAD. I am glad I made the effort to see her. I had a clear conscience. But I often wonder how a Mother could be like that to her child

Ironing board up, Iron system filled with water, so she can get stated when she's ready. (What a good boy I am) ??

Nice to see you about this, and thanks for you Email.

Jane, you are a mucky little PUP. take two minus points for being untidy.

I am looking into Freesat/ Freeview. and whatever is out there. I know I will be confused by it all and will have to get Conrad involved.

Heavy frost forecast tonight, so cover up any plants you have outside. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Bless you Mel! They're fine. Merlin's looking very splendid in his summer coat, it shows his brand mark up really well, so he can be easily spotted. Millies eyes are still giving a bit of trouble, she has an Entropian (spelling!) which doesn't seem to bother her, but needs bathing everyday and an application of Viscotears. trouble is, that to cure her would mean an op on her eyes, which at her age is a bit of a non-starter, so all we can do is 'suck it and see'. Hubby?!! less said the better!! (only joking!) he's ok!

Ann that dos'nt sound like a good service to me. Surely you can ring any time for an appointment. It is just not good enough and when you are in so much pain. Do they have a cheap number as well as the expensive one???

We have a number for appointments and one for prescriptions at our surgery. There again I suppose it is not in a big town. Ours is a great place ad they will try and fit you in that day if you are in that much pain.

Hi to Liz :-D nice to see you posting. How is hubby and Merlin and Millie? <3 to all.

Being an only child, and although my mother was very hot on good manners, truthfulness (!!) speaking UP when spoken to and respect for other people whatever their situation or origin, I certainly got a lot of affection, tolerence and care, the ' hen with one chick' comes to mind! which made going away to school a good thing and stopped me from being a potential Mummy's girl'!! A bit tough at first, but then tough love is just that.
Cold and sunny here this am, but hopefully the washing will dry! Oh dear Ann, NOT a good start to your week! Hopefully your appointment will sort itself out later and that the car damage isn't too serious. Hope everyone else is ok and gearing up for ANOTHER week!

Morning All,

Yep, I can honestly say the same Frank about my M & D and can't remember any hugs or kisses except once when I was leaving on a school day trip and all the other mums were kissing their children goodbye!!

I'm really fed up and cross this morning. :-| :-| This side and back have given me so much jip the last few days and last night I decided I ought to go to the docs as it is the 3rd time now in 2 months and it is impossible to breathe without pain. Tried ringing at 8.30am on the expensive 0844 number (which they've been advised not to use any more!) and it just said all lines busy ring later! I went straight to the surgery and got out of my car with great difficulty with my back and was told emergencies only this morning, ring back at 11.00am for an afternoon appt!! Trying to turn my car around in their tiny car park set my back off worse and I have clipped the front valance on the car so it is hanging off. They say all these things with a smile on their face too. Why do you have to ring at 11.00am for an afternoon appt. Is it just to get you to ring again on that expensive number?? I can't see why they can't release a day's appointments all in one go! So more pain to look forward to to go and get an appointment, and then another painful trip later to attend it!!
