Hello everyone,
I have been staying off the computer in order to catch up on things around the house.
It makes me sad for you that your holiday weather hasn't been very good, especially after the dreadful winter you have had. June is usually nice isn't it? I remember when I was young that I loved September in England. Many warm days, and harvesting.
My best friend's dad worked on a farm, and at harvest time he had to work late, so couldn't get to the pub. My friend and I would have to take his empty bottles to the side door of the pub and knock, and whoever answered the door would take the bottles and get them filled with scrumpy for us. They knew who it was for. The farmhands took their scrumpy with them to the fields. One time we took an empty bottle for ourselves and got it filled. Then we went down a little lane where the grass and cow parsley was really long on the banks, and we lay back hidden from view and shared that rotten stuff. I don't think we were able to drink the whole bottle. We were both deathly sick. I think we were about 13 or 14. It cured us.
I remember our school dentist too. He used a room over the pub. No nurse - just him. He would have his tools bubbling in a little silver pot, and his old head shook. He pulled all my baby teeth. I went home for dinner that day, and mum had liver for dinner. I loved liver, even as a kid, but couldn't eat it that day. I never forgot that I missed out on liver once!!
Our weather is pretty warm - mid 80's F. I wish I could send some of it your way.
Ruby.

Evening all,
Glad you are home safe and sound Jane/Chris. Such a pity about the weather. At least you had a break for a couple of days. Can Chris prescribe something for your cough. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY.
I had the Email from Alan Miller, I knew of Anne with the "E" as we use to say. I passed it on to Mel, But I'm pleased it's a scam and not a real incident
Welcome Roberta. You must go back on the thread and DELETE all the extra posting. We are all having trouble, and all these extra postings won't help. with the SITE. Sorry to mention it, and I'm not an old mourner, as you will find out if you stay with us If you would like to go on the JOKE LIST let me have your Email address.
Will, I trust Mother and baby are doing well, when will you be making the trip to see her.???
Still a horrible evening here. It has been heavy cloud all day, and started to rain about and hour ago. I see it's the coldest "SPRING" for 50 years and the worse May since 1996.
I didn't get to Tesc# today. Ros won't be going out with Martine on Saturday, as she has something else on. So we will go into town tomorrow, to get odds and sods, and I can get the card then. IF I don't forget. !!

Congratulations William, I think the name Olivia is lovely too.
What a shame the rain was so relentless Jane.......not ideal with you having the cough either. Still, at least getting to drive through gives you an idea whether you would want to go back as you say. Belated Happy Anniversary......! <3
Thanks for that Fiona, obviously Anne is well aware!! :-S I hope your arm is a bit better now.
OH has had another go at getting my keys, but no success so I have rung the company and they will ring me back tomorrow. No more 'disasters' for me today thank goodness, but I noticed one of OH's back lights wasn't working yesterday, so he went to the garage this afternoon. While they were fixing it he walked down the road to a cash machine.............discovered he had no wallet!! Luckily he had the £2 in change for the bulb, but wasn't happy till he got home and was certain his wallet was here!!
It's turned chilly again here so I shall get ready for bed I think and be all cosy. I emptied out half of the bathroom cabinet earlier.......couldn't believe how much stuff was out of date. :-S Still at least there is more room for my extra thyroid tablets now! lol. I'll do the other half tomorrow.

Evening Everyone. We are home :-D.Been travelling since just after 10 this morning. We did a big detour so we could drive down through the Lake District and see a couple of the lakes. Then took the scenic route across North Yorkshire Moors to join the A1(somewhere) The weather has been dire :-S especially yesterday when we went to Fountains Abbey and Richmond. In fact we didn't even get out of the car in Richmond as there was nowhere to park and it was pouring. So we just had a drive through. It did look like it was a lovely little town though.(Maybe another day).
It's our Anniversary today(I forgot this morning lol) James and Jess are just going to pick up a Thai Takeaway for us all...Poor James is actually feeling pretty rough .He has got my lurgy :-S.I'm still coughing away.Chris said he new exactly where I was when we were at Fountains Abbey as he could here me a mile off.
Congratulations Gt Grandad William and Carmel on the arrival of your latest addition to your family.Olivia Hazel is a lovely name.I almost called Hannah ,Olivia. It is a name I have always liked.
Will catch up on other posts tomorrow I think.I need to get plates and cutlery ready now :-D

Afternoon All,
I am rather concerned about this. Do some of you remember Anne who used to join the thread quite a while ago? Well, I have had this come through today using the email address I have for her. It 'appears' to be her hubby.........or is it someone bogus using the same email address?? It must be a scam of some sort.
If it was genuine surely family or the police would help. I've deleted it now.
Good morning, I Hope you get this on time, I made a trip to Manila(Philippines) and had my bag stolen from me with my passport and personal effects therein. The embassy has just issued me a temporary passport but I have to pay for a ticket and settle my hotel bills with the Manager.
I have made contact with my bank but it would take me 3-5 working days to access funds in my account, the bad news is my flight will be leaving very soon but i am having problems settling the hotel bills and the hotel manager won't let me leave until i settle the bills, I need your help financially and I promise to make the refund once i get back home, you are my last resort and hope, Please let me know if i can count on you and i need you to keep checking your email because it's the only way i can reach you.
Thanks, Alan

Hi Roberta,
Funny you should mention the 'caravan' mobile dentist. I'm doing a daily series on my Facebook page where I put a photo from the past on, they are all titled 'Being Kids'. The mobile dentists caravan will be one that I'll be adding soon as I work my way along date-wise. I don't think we had these where we lived because I can recall going to the dentist in Romford. Smoking on the school bus!!! I know some of our school kids smoked behind the bike sheds.

things I remember ----as a child having half a real egg for my tea --real egg not powder. cod liver oil and orange juice given out in the school playground ---same spoon used for all class mates. "caravan" dentist ---a van came to school and an awful man took my tooth out --no warning just got hold with pliars and out it came! Later in high school smoking Abdullah cigarettes on the school bus ---can still remember the smell !! <3
