You've got it right Ann. Tuttle Hill takes you from the old Midland Road Station, up past Mount Jud (the old Judkins Quarry) and up past Mancetter Road to the turn off for Hartshill. Camp Hill is to one side of that and has been recently redeveloped. We lived off there at the time in some new maisonettes that had been built in Tudor Road, just before you got to the Hartshill turn. That was many many years ago and we didn't live there long before moving to Brookdale Road, off Higham Lane.
I used to an insurance round that included Camp Hill and to be honest, I didn't want too much business up there. Although one couple were lovely, but they then moved to Bedworth and I still see them here after all these years.

Mandy, I'm glad you've explained that. I thought you had a gigantic loft opening like an aircraft carrier :-D

Good to know Fiona is getting out and about. It sounds like the fall did'nt do much damage then... :-)

Been up the tunnel and dug the lenght for the tom plants but I cheat and only dig where the plants go in so you could say I have dug 20 holes.

Cleared the old beans down and only one cane broken but it is one that has the support on it. Think I will just put another cane against it and tape that one on too. Yes I use tape as it is much quicker than tying them together and I get them tighter.

Cleared the rest of the weeds out the left hand top bed so I am nearly ready to go planting but got hot and thirsty so came down for a cuppa and hav'nt got back up there. May pop in the shower as I feel all dusty.

Quick dinner tonight pasta with mushrooms (button ones) toms leeks turkey ham in a cheese sauce.

Ann knit one row pearl one row is usually referred to as stocking stitch and rows of all knit or all pearl as garter stitch if that helps :-D

Good to see you are getting about a bit more Fiona, sometimes when I get back from shopping on a Thursday I don't go out again until Monday evening and that makes me feel a bit of a hermit.

Shirl. I hope you can send us some photos when you are all ship shape again.

William ,it's one of those prams where the main body of the pram unclips from the wheels ,so each part went up easy in the loft .

It was a bit short notice for the bells Mel, there was a wedding this afternoon at the church the bells were ringing as we were in the garden .

Hubby was talking to a friend yesterday and he was telling hubby that it costs three hundred pound to get married on a saturday in the church ,so his niece is getting married this thursday and it's two hundred pound cheaper !!!

Maureen , son ordered the green house on the monday evening and it came on the wednesday morning , got my tomato plants in the grow bags this afternoon and the Cucumbers and when i looked my lettuce seeds are coming through :-D i sowed them last monday !!

Ann, i can just see you tussling with your bag :-D :-D you will go into shape you will :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D
I wouldn't risk 60 degrees :-S you might end up with some thing just big enough for your lose change :-S :-S :-D

Tuttle hill is an area near Camp hill in Nuneaton William. The mighty Mount Jud which can be seen for miles around is the slag heap of the nearby quarry. I don't know whether there was an actual 'hill' called Tuttle Hill (OH may know when he gets home), if there was it may have been quarried away now. I do know there was a windmill there once. That area and camp Hill were 2 places I was told were 'rough' when I worked at Nuneaton for a year. Some staff that visited there carried 2 spare wheels in their cars......they never slashed just one!!

Well I never Maureen, I didn't realise you could grow celery in a greenhouse. Maybe I should have a go with them sometime as I like celery a lot. It was something mum and dad never ate so I never got to try it as a child.

Mel, that was very short notice! Most people would have already made plans for their Saturday. Did the couple suddenly decide they wanted the bells?

Mandy, the bag is about 14 inches by 12 inches. I've knitted one of the handles now, but the instructions are not very clear as to whether they should be knit a row, purl a row (like the rest) or all knit! :-S. The teacher said to wash it at a normal 40 degrees programme first and see how it comes out. If it doesn't look right she said try again at 40 degrees or 60 degrees. (I'm not risking 60 degrees!! lol). Then she said we would have to 'fight it into shape' and stuff it with bean tins till it fully dries.! :-S

Yes, the young Frankie was a right little tinker!! ;-)

Afternoon All,

Just got back from a great trip up to Balloch in Loch Lomond , the weather was lovely, I didn't have a coat on, it only takes us 40 mins to get there so it's ideal for a change of scenery , Visited the shops especially the shoe shop that does Pa*ers size 2 and bought a pair of dressy shoes in a neutral colour, tried on lots more 2 but they were to wide, We then went up to Loch Lomond factory Outlet , and bought a fancy scarf and some jewellery (bracelet ) and a new glasses case,
Had lunch in the restaurant, Cheese baked potato & salad, and a big mug of hot chocolate, Yummy.

It felt good to get away from home for a few hours.

Hav'nt caught up with All the posts yet but just had to add about the mound of dirt with the straw pokeing out the top.

It was a potato clamp. You dug a shallow hol ein the ground and put you potatoes in in a pile and covered them with a good layer of straw, then put more earth over the top of the straw leaving a bit sticking out the top to act for air circulaton. These tatoes would keep all winter and keep frost free. It works too as I hae done it in the past.

Great reading about the allotment Ruby, we had one when I was first married as we lived on the 9th floor of a high rise. I think they are very sort after these days and you have to go on a waiting list for one.

Years ago we had a greenhouse in this garden and my ex grew celery, it put me off though because when I cut it a woodlice crawled out, goodness knows how it got in there, I am a bit squeemish about creepy crawlies on food, that's what puts me off growing lettuce even when you've given it a good wash some things still cling on, but I might give those ones you mentioned a go Ann.

The bank holiday is the 6th May Jane.

Went to a boot sale this morning, it was freezing, but it least it didn't rain. Managed to get a few tomato and a couple of cucumber plants all I have to do now is wait for the greenhouse to arrive. How long did yours take Mandy, can you remember. I got a nice litle wooden train set for when Finley or Harry come over too.

Another beautiful necklace Ann and thanks all for the photos and jokes, lovely ones of the grandchildren Fiona, Matteo is quite fair isn't he.

I'm glad my pram item stirred up a few memories. Most of all that we were all proud to walk our offspring in those prams. Ours was white with blue lines, there was a photo of me pushing it on top of Tuttle Hill in Nuneaton but Lord knows where that is!
Mandy, how on earth can you get a pram into your loft??? I can only just get me through and into our loft!
At one time Carmel worked for Shuresta's in Bayton Road, Exhall, not far from where we live now. The firm was owned by a man called Mireki, he ccould have been Maltese, not sure. Their push-chairs were all the go at one time but although Carmel enjoyed the comradeship, she wasn't so overjoyed at the work. The firm originally started in Coventry but moved out to bigger premises as it expanded.

We went to our first 'indoor' car boot sale this morning. It's held at Corley village hall every fortnight and we're quite well known there now, it's more like a family meeting. Corley is a tiny village, but widespread with a Saxon church. Although you wouldn't think it, it's one of the highest points in Warwickshire. From the side of the hall you can see for miles right as far as Burton Dasset Hills, nearly into Oxfordshire.
We just got a couple of bits and because it was finishing time, folks even GAVE us things! We got three soft toys for the great-grandchildren, and I was given a boxed 1972 road atlas, just in case they take all the motorways out LOL. I don't care, I love old maps, I could look at them for hours.

I haven't met Ruby before so I'd like to say 'Hi Ruby'

Anyway, more later - C Y A L - stay out of the showers and hailstones.

Frank you were a right little minx.I can just hear your neighbours etc saying "It's that Bedford boy again" !!! :-D

Ann you probably made a very sensible decision to stay at home. The last thing you want is to aggravate your sore side.Have a nice gentle afternoon :-D

Mandy I actually woke feeling refreshed this morning .I think because I felt so relaxed I just felt like staying there lol.But since then I have been over to Rushden to the Waitr*** there.I now have no room left in my freezer.

Chris has had to go back to Northampton :-S as there was an error in the paper work to do with the new car.Something he really didn't want to do on a saturday afternoon.

The sun is shining at the moment but it's looking a bit dodgy so I think all the bath and toilet mats will have to go in the tumble drier .And now I need to attack the ironing pile :-| :-|

Mel that was a bit short notice from the Vicar to ask for Bell Ringing today ! I hope the Bride and Groom weren't disappointed.I'm not surprised you couldn't find enough ringers.

Afternoon everyone,

Nice and bright here now but we've had huge hail stones this morning with rain .

Well look at old stop in bed :-D you still tired from your trip to London Jane :-D

Ann, what size is the bag now ? , does it depend on how long you wash it for as to how much it shrinks ?

I've still got the fringed canopy i had for sons pram ,and his pram is still in the loft.
I remember the first time we walked out hubby pushed the pram and we walked round the town and son cried the whole time we were out :-D

Off to Hom*base and then to the tip to get rid of some garden rubbish .

Morning all/Evening Kim and Welcome RUBY. Please stay with us, we have great chats and laughs.

Ruby, you certainly bought back some memories for me. Just after the war, dad had an allotments, and would walk down there with the tools in the barrow. Often Mum would make a Milk Bottle of TEA,(NO THERMOS FLASKS THEN) and I would take it over to him. and stay and help with little jobs, and collect the veg. he wanted to take home for Sunday's dinner. There were seven at home, but most weekend had one of my elder brothers or sister, with their partners for Sunday dinner, which would be NINE and when their children came along ELEVEN.We also had chickens at the bottom of the garden. All the tiny potato's were boiled up and put in the chicken mash, and feed to the chickens. I loved the smell of the hot potato in the mash.

The parrot joke I sent this morning again bought back memories. The local undertaker by the village green had his office. There was a big black door, with a brass letterbox. At the end of the hall sat a BIG parrot. We use to open the letter box and call through "SILLY BUGGER" and after many attempts he would reply. I never found out what the undertaker thought :-D :-D Just one of the many harmless things, I use to do.

I would get an old penny, make a ,hole in it, tie it to string. Hide behind Dr Barnardo's fence and as people came passed from the bus, would jangle it across the path. They would stop. Thinking they had dropped money, and would look around to see if they had. LOL

I am on a roll, here's another.

Would tie a reel of cotton from the telegraph pole to the fence across the path at about SIX INCHES high. The reason for this. There was a "STUCK UP WOMEN" who had a tiny pickaneese (wrong spelling) dog. She would walk by and the dog would get his feet caught up in the cotton.. We thought it was funny at the time.!!!

We also had one of those coach built prams for my two children. Navy blue with cream inside. I would feel so proud walking around our village on Sunday morning, showing off the baby.

I nipped up the club last night (I wish I hadn't) as I walked in I was greeted by thumping music, and about FIFTEEN teenagers who were having a poker night. Why is it. that they have the music so loud that you can hardly think, and then carry on a conversation. and have to shout about the noise. I had two pints and rang Ros to collect me. She thought I had been taken ill, calling her within the hour of leaving home.

I could sit here reminiscing all day. But I must get on and do a couple of things, before I go to watch WEST HAM V MAN CITY.

Morning All,

Just lost my post! :-P It's chillier here today, but the bit of sun we had earlier seems to have gone already. I have just waved OH off on his trip to Guiseley as I decided manoevering his car about in tight carparks with my side hurting would have been yet another pain in my side, plus it looks like a rainy day up north too and not much to do where he has gone. I have decided that a couple of I*uprofen will do me more good.

Mandy it was the lid that goes over the seat that had broken, but I know just what you mean about sitting on the porcelain rim in the night!! lol. I have also managed to forget to lift the lid sometimes and sitting on that can be a shock too!! :-0

I have managed to knit up most of my felted bag, just the casting off to do, then the handles and flap over the top. When it is all sewn together it will go in the washing machine to shrink it.......I just hope with my machine that it doesn't come out the size of Barbie's purse!!!

Hi Ruby, my parents always grew lots of veg too and I still love pulling the soil from around the potatoes to find them, it still gives me a thrill. They grew carrots, radish, lettuce, cabbage, peas, runner and broad beans. My in laws at the time grew even more things as they had a greenhouse and grew and sold bedding plants as well as tomatoes, chrysanthemums and sweet peas. Please add any memories you have as we struggle to think of new things now. :-)

William I always used to have trouble with one of those carousel type car parks in the city. The trouble was is had 2 layers, one called red and one called blue that spiralled around together. If you forgot which you were parked on when you returned for your car, you could walk from top to bottom all the way around and never see your car!! I have panicked more than once!!

I'm pretty sure it was a Silver Cross pram my sister had. It was secondhand, but looked like new and was a beige colour, with a beautiful elegant shaped body with high curved springs at each corner. The handle was white and had gentle grooves each end where you put your hands and it had a lovely fringed canopy for sunny days. I used to push my sister out in it sometimes, but my chin only managed to reach up to the handle so it was hard work for me over the gravel paths we had where I lived!! With us children being spaced so much apart in age, all our prams were totally different. Mine frankly had all the appeal of a bucket on wheels......my sister had this thing of beauty and my brother had a green canvas oblong box you could lift off the chassis which folded down, it was a T*nsad pram I think.

Better go and water the greenhouse now and see if any seeds are through. :-D

Hello Ruby :-D...Do keep peeping in.It's good to have new memories .I'm curious to know what was in the mound of straw with the twist on the top.Maybe someone will know.Any more memories will be very welcome :-D :-D

William I had a Silver Cross pram for Hannah that was in 1981.I think I was the only one of my group of new Mums to have one.It was second hand ,and I can't for the life of me remember where I got it.But I just knew I wanted one just like I had when I was a baby :-D.My cat Solo used to jump into it and curl up at the bottom .I have a photo somewhere with Hannah at one end and the cat at the other. The pram had brilliant suspension ! I remember the first time my Dad came out with me with Hannah in the pram .He was such a proud Granddad :-D He pushed the pram as I was just about 10 days after having a C Section. Funny how that memory has always stayed in my mind.
Putting my feet up now lol They are still recovering from pounding London Streets !
