Did you get my private message Jane re my photo blog?

Interesting that you live near the Solent I was born and lived until 1968 in Fareham so know the area well. Still have family in the area and was last down there in March. We usually stay in a B&B in Lee.

You might find something unusual at gunwharf. A good photo of a beached boat can be interesting, especially if it is not pristine (the boat). Model yachts on the boating lake at gosport? naval ships, especially if any are entering harbour.Paper boats, good idea, different. Is there a yacht in dry dock near the ferry somewhere? Ferry boat, especially on a wet day maybe, rough sea, a bit misty.

for the celebrations, are there any street parties around for the Queens 90th? I assume you don't need people so photos of bunting, balloons or flags etc might be good. Champagne bottle, glasses, it doesn't have to be an actual celebration does it?

Thanks Ann

I have just had a quick look at your blog and you have some really nice photos there. Thanks for letting me have a look at them. I work in Lee. Its a really lovely place. I live just down the road from there in Gosport.

The ideas you have given me for the boat theme and the celebration theme are really good. We do have a few sailing clubs around here so they may let me have a look round their yards. There are some boats still out of the water as the sailing season has only just begun round here. I will have to go and investigate. As for the celebration ideas. Going for objects rather than people could work really well. I will have to have a think about that one.

All the best

Jane

If you can photograph glass (i.e. bottle and glasses, really well that can be a winner. Wonder if a table setting and somehow have the decorations reflected in the glass. When I got married (1960) We had a very innovative photographer and there is a photo of me reflected in the shiny base of the cake stand. (Just head with veil and headdress.

When wee were first married we lived in several different rented places in Gosport, Peel Road, Linden Grove, Crescent Road (Alverstoke) and Queens road. Then we moved to Fareham.

Seeing that this is a FH site I should also say My Great Grandfather was married in Alverstoke church and another Great Grandfather and his family lived in Gosport for many years, Forton Road (marine barracks) Victoria Street and one I can't remember offhand.

Yes, we love Lee. used to be taken to the beach and to the outdoor pool there by my Mum, used to cycle there as a teenager with my then boyfriend/fiance, now husband and always visit if in the area, many happy memories. :-) :-)

Hi

Well I had my first go at Bokeh last night and after a bit of experimenting it turned out Ok ish. A bit more practice is required, I will then need to set up my picture and take that special shot. Not exactly sure how I am going to do it . I have my fairy and my star shaped bokeh sorted but now I have to decide what else I am going to put in the picture to tell a story.

Obviously its going to be night time and my fairy is looking at the stars and I think its going to have to be set in a garden or woods but not sure exactly how I am going to do this or what I am going to put in it. I will just have to have spend some time thinking about it.

right I must go to the gym and come back to this later.

bye. x

How are you getting on with it Jane? did you find a boat to photograph?

Hi Ann

Yes I found, well made a boat. I made a paper boat and went to Apple dumpling bridge and sailed it there. It was great fun and the bystanders were really amused with what was going on. The photo came out really well and actually came 6th in the competition. They liked the fact I had used a photographic newspaper to make the boat out of and I had changed some of the images on it to boats.

I also put a submarine in a glass bowl and drew some fishes on a piece of paper which I placed inside the bowl, It looked like a face. the judge could not tell if there was water in or not or if I had drawn the submarine or placed it inside the bowl. So it really got him thinking. this came 3rd so I am really please with it. When the club gets round to it the photo will go on Gosport Camera Clubs website so you will be able to see it.. It will be in the competitions section. Unfortunately it will take them a while to do this. If you are interested I will let you know when its there.

Well done Jane. Especially the third place, you showed good ingenuity with both entries. Yes please let me know when they are on there. And let us know what is in store for next year.
