Thanks for that Shirley. As he was only registered on the electoral role at 27 Philip Road up until 1965? maybe he did move towards Lewisham. Is there a way to look at the electoral role up to 1978? The person you just came up with looks worth a shot at getting some certificates. The GRO gave me a full refund of the fee on the last misfire - which I thought was good of them.
I am very grateful for your help. best regards jennifer

Do you agree that it is possible for LIlian Mary Bass to have a different name really and just be using Henry Frederick Bass's surname as she was living with him for so long. He was actually married to Mary Ann Bass who also appears at the address now and then. Where did this LIlian Mary come from? Could John J be her son from a previous relationship? It seems to me that finding someone descended from John O'Keefe could answer all my questions. Wonder if he married Vera eventually? Easy to drive yourself barmy in this game! Thanks for your interest.

Thanks Shirley. Do you know if he actually served on a jury or was just listed as someone who could be on call if required to serve?

I found them on Ancestry london electoral rolls listings up to 1965.

And they were the only ones at that address each time so not a multiply occupant house.

Maybe it was just a rented house

As far as Jury service it seems you must have lived in the UK for at least 5 years from aged 13 to qualify

What are the requirements for a juror? Does it mean he was born in England -

Now that is interesting Shirley. Bearing in mind that 27 Philip ROad may have been a house with rooms to rent and not necessarily for one family - I wonder if the Vera M Johnson was just another tenant or was she "with John J O'Keefe? How did you find that out? I am not in Ancestry at the moment. THought someone may have treated me to membership at Christmas or even Mother's Day - but no. I wonder if they left that address together.

jenVG Report 22 Apr 2015 17:27

I realise that - but wherever did I get that date from? At that time I was an Ancestry member also . It was November 2013. Maybe it was on the Family Search site. Maybe a wrong assumption that his middle name was Joseph? I really need to get back to grips with all this. At this rate the 1921 census will be out before I get it sorted! A person called John J O'Keefe definitely lived at the same house as my uncle lived - right up to his death in 1959. It has been suggested that he was a son of my uncle's live in lady friend and he only described himself on the death cert as a nephew to save embarrassment!

I have just had a disappointing message form GRO saying that the death certificate I requested for John Joseph O'Keefe are wrong and trhey are giving me a refund!. The details I gave them were date of death 11 July 1966 in Stepney aged 52. Now as so much time has elapsed I can't for the life of me remember where I got that date of death from. Could it be from one of you kind people. Any advice as to where now please?

Thanks Rose. I thought it would have made him a suitable candidate for Nephew in 1959. Just shows - never assume.
