Brigid - perhaps you could add the GR threads links to the one on Rootschat? New eyes may be able to find something we've missed.

Goodness what a lot of work + progress
I didn't check here before reading find ancestors post .

I'm sorry i wasn't available when you decided to launch your initial search but do call if you have any queries ..if i can help i will ...

+ i agree that its important to summarise findings and put links to other pages on here + add them to the Rootschat page just in case someone does look up in future. ( hard for technophobes to learn all the steps how to do this .)

so pleased you found at least 1 relative to contact .

speak soon .

I've looked at all the Bloombergs in London 1901, all the Ezekiels ditto, Ezekiels who have emigrated ... the birthdate on the school admission would I think be correct, but that doesn't help a lot!

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 21 Oct 2015 21:17

Even using a wide search in Warwichshire 1872-1874, there is nothing that could possibly be Ezekiel's. Its on the cusp of compulsary registration. Perhaps they decided to give it a miss if money was tight?

the only 2 in the same area and year range are

Births Mar 1872 (>99%)
BLOOMBERG Esther Birmingham 6d 147

Births Mar 1874 (>99%)
Bloomberg Polly Birmingham 6d 156
She died the same quarter

I think I've just about exhausted the possibilities for Ezekiel... I think he must have changed both his first name and surname? I can't even see a birth cer for him...or have I missed it? :-S

RE possible children for Henry Percy Lawrence. There is a problem in so far that there are a number of Lawrence/Mitchell entries in the gro index. Its impossible to say if, if any, are their children.

Ploughing through various ER, there is one which may suggest that all of the Bloombergs changed their surname

1920 – 31 Minster Rd, Camden
With Fanny Lawrence, Frank Lawrence
Fanny his mother and Frank being his father Francis?

Hi Maureen, it's not really a case of being "dedicated" to purchase certs...it's just that sometimes you have to if you really want to know for sure. It's a personal choice just how obsessed one gets lol.

As to Stella V , there is no Bloomberg marriage to a Lawrence account for that name ( as far as I can see?) so she may just have taken the name. The families certainly did like to change names!

maureen

maureen Report 21 Oct 2015 14:41

Violet Stella's surname was Bloomberg, her parents being Alfred Bloomberg who married a Catherine Zwart. Violet was born 1905 and there is cause for confusion because her brother's name was HARRY Percy born 1892. Maybe she married her cousin? My brother-in-law went to Hackney Downs, as did Harold Pinter!
Now I wonder whether Esther Bloomberg, born 6.12.1871, Litchfield St. B'ham, who married in 1894 Phillip Barnet Gluckstein (or possibly George Darlison) had any family.
I appreciate all the info. but am not so dedicated as to purchase certificates. I leave that to you dedicated professionals. Best Wishes, Maureen

DET I think that one's likely too, but as you say it will need certs to be sure. I couldn't see any children for that marriage can you?

I wish I could remember the thought I had just before i went to sleep last night re this thread lol :-D

this snippet is interesting re HP Bloomberg/Lawrence from
http://www.cloveclub.com/WW1ROHa.pdf

Hackney Down's School...Roll of honour

"Lawrence, H.P.Second-Lieut.: Writes from France:- “Will you make public the fact that I am no longer known to the world as Bloomberg. Before a benevolent War Office would grant me a commission it was necessary for me to change my name and so by Deed Poll ‘to all whom it may concern,’ I am in future to be known by the name of Lawrence.” We have just heard that Second Lieutenant Lawrence has been wounded in the forearm by a Boche machine gun bullet and is now in King’s College Hospital, London. (90/17). Visited School 93/18."

Brilliant! Thank you JoonieCloonie. I have written to Nicholas just now and hope to hear from him. I am now looking to see whether Henry Percy Bloomberg, name change to Lawrence) born 1896 Stoke Newington, died 1978 Aylesbury had any family, some of whom could still be living.
Did you have a good holiday Rambling Rose? I've set you another trail to follow! Best Wishes to all, Maureen .

Maureen one of those links for Nick Rich did have an email address ( *edit sorry just realised it's only partial) but it may not be current so if you don't get a reply from him here, I will see if I can find him on the electoral roll.
