Alistair you said it all, I’m in absolute agreement, at a guess I think maybe the majority would be....but

I found my brother on here by asking questions, thankfully there were very few “board watchers” GR was a much pleasanter place, we are, after all grownups!,

Alistair

I posted about the deletion on your James Jones thread. More often that not Genes will remove posts that have been reported. It does mean, though, that a whole thread can disappear if it is the opening post was reported. I don’t believe that Genes will contact the ‘author’. It is often a shame when a whole thread goes because all the research and advice goes with it.
No one has the authority to to ask to see anything you have written and to approve it. Nor do I believe they can tell you have no right to contact anyone. Advise is often given to take it carefully .

I have been wondering if your wife has ever considered taking a dna test. It doesn’t always give you the wanted answers but sometimes can show you the right direction.

I am sorry that you been so upset, the majority of posters would not wish to do that.

I hope you eventually get your answers, but it can take a long time.

Names.

With reference to this thread re adoption tracing.

Genes reunited offer the service of tracing living relatives. That is exactly what adopted adults tend to be seeking.
I have personally managed to trace my wife's parents and ancestors via this site and others.
There are some very helpful people on this site.By the same token there are those who wish to obstruct the freedom of search and of course the outcome.
One such person informed me that I had no right to contact relatives and even stated that I had "implied" certain information until she personally seen the letter sent and agreed it was acceptable.
My post was complained about and taken down.I am still awaiting a reason why this has been done with no contact with myself as the author.
It seems a rather unfair system that allows one person to complain because they cant read or understand that which has been written or indeed fail to do any research re the use of the word children(both fully grown adults)
Best of luck to anyone wishing to trace living relatives with the narrow minded view of some on here.
Now onto complaints department.
regards
Alistair

Sadly people join genes in the hope of tracing birth family but it’s not a site that holds records

At least though some members can advise where to go next

Mea culpa.

I hadn’t bothered to look if the C&P had worked properly.

There has been a huge increase in requests for help in finding adoptees or natural parents.

No one on here is able to access adoption records. Even the Long Lost Family tv programme has to go to specialists.

May I suggest that you look at the following government sites for help:

Adoption records: The Adoption Contact Register - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

Adoption Records | National Records of Scotland (nrscotland.gov.uk)

Tracing and contacting birth relatives and adopted adults | nidirect
