Seeking HANRAHAN in Portsmouth UK

Hi, I am seeking information or modern day descendants of my great grand parents, Thomas James Hanrahan 1959-1912 and his wife Alice who apparently had 6 children, Aileen M Hanrahan born1885, Alice E Hanrahan born1886, Patrick Charles Hanrahan 1888 - 1969, William G Hanrahan born 1898, Mabel A Hanrahan born 1890, Nora P Hanrahan born 1901.

My Grandfather was Patrick Charles Hanrahan born 1888 in Plymouth Devon, he lived in Portsmouth Hampshire and worked as a ship fitter in H.M Naval Base in Portsmouth where other family members also lived in the period from 1885 - 1939 before moving with his wife Margaret Mary Lynch 1885 - 1967 and daughter Delia Mary Hanrahan 1922-1993 to Scotland to work at H.M. naval base Rosyth

Today there are many Hanrahan's residing in the Portsmouth/Southsea area, could any of these be long lost relatives or descendants of my great grandparents ?

There are historic references to Jubilee Road and Velder Avenue, Portsmouth, Southsea, and also Plymouth / Devon.

Any info / assistance appreciated.

Kindest regards

Brian Hanrahan

Did you bother to go back to your original thread on the Find Ancestors board?

Do some research.....................

Start trying to contact the people you say are in the relevant area.................we can't do it for you

Not sure why you think they could be connected to your bit of the family - Thomas was born in SURREY c1859...not 1959 ;-)

Hi to everyone and thank you all very much for your time and kindness in replying to my post.

Some of you may have gathered that I am indeed a complete novice and have never undertook anything like this previously so please forgive me for my lack of knowledge of how to go about researching this on my own but my aim is to establish if I have any potential living relatives today as I know the family is rooted in the Portsmouth Hampshire area.

I have only just started on this journey by beginning to build my family tree and already I'm feeling blown away by what I an discovering, I had until recently not known who my great grandparents were or that my grandfather had a brother and several sisters, this is all news to me.

I'm sure that in the fullness of time there will be more to discover once I start to research all of the other people in my family tree more fully and individually but, once again please accept my heartfelt thanks for your time and kindness in replying to me.

Just to clarify for one member my great grandfather was indeed Thomas James Hanrahan born 1859 in Barnes Surrey, he resided in Jubilee Road Portsmouth and was a Foreman of Stores, Royal Navy Ordnance Department, he died in 1912.

Kindest regards.

Brian Hanrahan

You msy have noticed that the same names crop up on several boards. This is normal on here and you don’t need to use more than one board.
