Unfortunately very few Officers records for RAMC were retained and I can't see anything for him on the National Archives Catalogue

Porkie_Pie Report 26 Feb 2014 23:33

If he was an officer then he would have been given a Commission,

All appointments of a Commission and promotions for officers were announced/advertised in the London Gazzette,

He would also have had to resign his commission after the war which would also be announced/advertised in the London Gazzette

There is an entry

18 May 1915 Issue number: 29168 Page number: 4874
The previous page number 4873 is the start of the entry for the Army medical services (Royal Army Medical Corps)

John Rhodes Dickson, M.B 20 MAY, 1915
Battalion?Temporary Captain John R. W... to the Battalion. DatedDated 8th May,John... Bern Tydd Stephenson, M.D.John Rhodes Dickson, M.B.Sidney James Wareham

Hi, thank you very much to those that have taken the trouble to help me. With regard to thinking that JRD was a Captain is because I went to the Forces War Records stand at WDYTYA live. They found a JRD RAMC Captain but could not explore any further. Ancestry could not provide any help, except for a few more journeys between UK and Trinidad. I will be exploring all links over the coming days. Once again thanks to all. Regards, John.

Having read his Obituary i doubt he would have served in the RAMC as a Captain?

europepmc.org/articles/PMC2161556/pdf/brmedj04099-0039a.pdf

by the time of the first world war he appears to have been far to qualified to be on the shop floor so to speak,

He was probaly employed if at all in other areas,

Not all medical professionals who served did so in the armed forces,

No obvious record for him on the TNA Officer index

You might find this interesting, on The National Archives website ... http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/officerbritisharmyafter1913.htm

Did you follow up on the info posted on your thread in 2010?

It would have been better to nudge your old thread rather than start a new thread that would only lead to duplicating info already found/

The National Archives site has a free downloadable list of WW1 Army Officers and info on how to search for officers' records - the ones on Ancestry are (I think) only for privates and NCOs.

Hi, looking for any information with regards to theabove from 1913 to 1919.

I know most things pre 1913 and post 1919.

I know he qualified as a doctor (in Edinburgh) and probably volunteered his services in the RAMC maybe as a Captain.

I have learnt that a lot of First World War records have been destroyed in the Second World War.

I would appreciate any tidbits of information small or large.

Thanks and Regards.

John Dickson
