Amy’s death. It’s not unusual for the informant to get the birth date slightly wrong.

Amy in 1939 Register?

Roscoe Household (4 People)
11 Elm Street , Ellesmere Port U.D., Cheshire, England

FIRST NAME(S) LAST NAME(S) DOB OCCUPATION
Amy ? Berriman (Poppleton,Roscoe) 23 Nov 1916 General Servant Seeking Work
John Roscoe 21 Apr 1855 Udc Labourer
Sarah J Roscoe 21 Oct 1930 Unpaid Domestic Duti
James E Roscoe 31 May 1930 At School
Ref: RG101/4014C/027/36 Letter Code: LEUQ

The names in brackets mean that she was a Roscoe on 29 Sep 1939, then a Poppleton then later a Berriman. There’s only one date given for the change of surname, of 21 Jul 1950 which ties in with a marriage to Albert. It’s always possible that the sheet was incorrectly compiled & she should have originally shown as Poppleton.

Welcome to the boards, Denise.

As you’ve posted on the Military Chat board, presumably you’re looking for service records? He’d have been too young to serve in WW1 & Records for servicemen after 1922 are still with the MOD.

If you’re sure he was in Services you could apply for a copy of his for a non refundable fee off £30.

This is the link for obtaining UK service records:
