I'm looking for the service record of my father -in-law,He was a Gunner in the Royal Artillery, 2WW, I think his service number was 156695,a was told he was a desert rat

WW2 army records are not online.

EDIT:

Ancestry does have some WW2 Royal Artillery Tracer Cards, which give basic info, but nothing coming up with that number in WW2.

What is/was his name?
