Family member deserted in 1879.

A family member was a Private rank in the Coldstream Guards and deserted in Nov 1879.Can I obtain more details from anywhere please?

You would probably have to go to the National Archives as his service records are not on Findmypast. There is only this:-

Kath, Thank you for the prompt reply and information. A trip to the National Archives isn't possible at the moment but possibly in the future. Looking at your info he was only enlisted if that's the word, for 5 months. Why so long (6 years) for disciplinary action or would he have only just been found in 1879?

There are 7 transcriptions of the 8 Nov 1879 desertion record on Ancestry, with different publication dates in 1879:

Nov 21, 24, 26, 28, and Dec 1, 3 , 8

The original records are all viewable on Fold3, if anyone has a sub to that.

Or you can get a 7-day free trial to Fold3 - follow the links from the Ancestry page with Jesse's record.
