Yes times change don't they.
I got married in my local chapel I bought my own dress ,sister pd for her bridesmaid dress, we made the cake (three tiered) between us , my uncle a master baker had it iced. Our reception was at a posh hotel (bearing in mind we live in a rural area) but it was and still is the best around, dad paid for that.
My hubby's step sister invited us to Scilly for our honeymoon as they had a hotel there, and her hubby got us cheap flights, but from Luton( nothing wrong with Luton except we live so far away from there.lol)
Still have all the bills in the back of my photo album( which I paid for )

I think in those cases Daff, you may be right and they're getting married just for the sake of having a grand wedding, not everyone I hasten to add, my niece was the last in our family to get married, she had a lovely dress, got married in the registry office, booked a church hall and we all had a great time, then they spent their money on a honeymoon in Barbados, we went to Blackpool..lol

I'm trying to read my 'short hand' from last night and the C word , although I'm not sure I would have got it ,or used it in this case, is an adjective.

Afraid I am more practical I have seen parents pay up to 100,000 A $ for a wedding only to have the couple divorce within 2 years.Such a waste.
