Morning Shimms
Hope your pain is less today.
Yes I did think Sue may have left one with a clue or left the other one unsolved.
I'm just about to go to the supermarket and an generally busy on a Sat morning, so if someone hasn't put one up when I look in after lunch I'll probably do one :)
I don't like putting one up and then disappearing !..lol

Hi Sandie

goodnight, and sleep well

For the record, the answer is

the 2 Bishops in Chess are Known as Fools in France and Runners in Germany

The website above tells the story about how the names crossed continents and decades.

Other than going through every F and R word in the Dictionary which i'm not going to I'm stumped.
Frederick in France and Roger in Germany ? doh
I'm getting the old elbow now so think i'd better leave it for the more brighter morning peeps.

Hi Sandie

I hope you don't mind if I give half the game away.

"A bishop is a Chess piece... The piece's deep groove symbolizes a bishop's (or abbot's) mitre. The groove originates from the original Indian form of the piece, an elephant (the groove represented the elephant's tusks). This groove was interpreted differently in different countries as the game moved to Europe; in France, for example, the groove was taken to be a jester's cap, hence in France the bishop is called "fou" (the crazy man)."

Just the German connection to get now

I'm lost now, as Bishop translates to Eveque in French, and Bischof in German.

Not sure you need to know much about chess to answer this (except the piece starting with B) - more about languages
