It's not too bad, Jem, but what annoys me is that we went without proper holidays etc, although we've never had an extravagant lifestyle, whilst the pollies who make the decisions go on taxpayer funded overseas trips each year and receive a far greater superannuation payment than most people, and they don't contribute a cent towards it. Also, we can only access super at aged 60 (although there is talk of that being increased to 65) whereas pollies can access their 'funds once they either retire or are voted out at whatever age

The Government changed the rules last year and lowered the assets threshold. A bit complicated but the first thing to realise is that in Australia you do not automatically get the aged pension. You are assessed on either your assets or your income, whichever one works to the benefit of the Government in reducing the pension you receive.

Because our income is very low, we are assed on the assets we have (excluding the family home). As I salary sacrificed into super over a period of tears, and have only been drawing out the legal minimum each year the funds have accumulated.

At the moment OH's super is not taken into account but when she reaches pension age in 2017 they will be and we'll be way over the reduced asset limit :-(
