Help with posting threads

I've been away from family history research for quite a while and I never did get the hang of posting threads. I was guided before about responding to threads rather than the individual messages. Could someone please advise me how to post threads/where and replying to threads so everyone can read it. Sorry it's probably really easy and I've missed the plot. Appreciate any help. :-)

Best tips are to read the threads on the boards. That way you have seen this is NOT the board to post on. Hence my thread DON’T POST etc.
Delete this thread and post again either on one of the two Chat boards.
You can delete by using the Delete option.

Jayne -

To start a new thread -
depending on what your query is about, choose the relevant board from the menu on the left, or from the list under "Community" at the top of the page.
If it's about your family tree, you'll choose either "Find Ancestors", "Find Living Relatives", or "Military Chat".

"Genealogy Chat" is for more general genealogy questions, and not so much for queries about specific people in your tree.

Once you've clicked on your choice of Board, click on "Add Topic" near the top on the right hand side.
Type your query, giving as much relevant information as you can, and click "Submit".

Then keep an eye on your new thread to see what replies people post. GR won't notify you of replies - you have to keep an eye out for them yourself.

To post a reply on either your own thread or someone else's -

Find the thread. If it's one you started, or added to already, click on "My threads" in the left-hand menu, or under "Community" near the top of the page.
Click on the thread you want to post on.
Add your reply in the white box at the bottom of the thread, marked "Add your reply", and click "Submit".
Everyone will then see your reply.
