Hmmm...dentist

Ive missed my 6 month check up...will be in the bad books and may have to go private

They kicked JB off the NHS list for missing a check up and now he pays £85 for it

I pay about £17...well at the moment that is!

Sylv...youve hit the nail. He is a challenge as he does hit ALL the essential and desirable

Hmmm....a dilema for the Uni me thinks

And you have not booked your flight over for the week on Eccy Rd.....

Light weight ;)

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 27 Sep 2010 20:22

now clean, scrubbed and smartly dressed

so there Cyn

ha ha

everything crossed for JB

Unfortunately, universities (as well as other places) do tend to have someone in mind when a job opening occurs

....... over here, the ad is often written with that person in mind, no-one else could possibly have all those qualifications, experience and abilities

Of course ......... someone may appear out of the woodwork who does have all that is asked!

so now, could JB be the challenger?!

I worked for the university for over 30 years, and OH was on faculty for 37 years ..........we both had lots of experience in and of this!

OH's face looks like a one-sided hamster!

One root canal, and a tooth where a cyst was removed from one of the roots

Got the estimate for the floor covering, have to go to the store to talk it over with an estimator (company policy), and sign .......... seemed pretty good to me:-

12' x 15' kitchen ............... new vinyl covering, approved underlay, labour (including moving & replacing 2 appliances, and cover plates at the 2 doorways), and all taxes ..... just under $1500 (or ca. £800-900)

Really hope it all goes well for him Gins.....but I go with what Dea has said - at least he has got his foot in the door so to speak.

Do you know that that Sylvs of ours has been lounging around in her dressing gown for absolutely ages? I mean, what is the world coming to? We expect everyone on this thread to be dressed properly when they come on here...

And...the best thing this weekend; Ed Miliband was made leader of the Labour party

Excellent....a real LABOUR leader

Hands, feet, fingers, legs, toes AND 'bits' are all crossed!!

Good luck to JB

Dea Xxx

Mind you, I know what you mean about these jobs already being allocated to someone on 'the inside' - Unfortunately it happens quite a lot!

BUT, he has got his CV in there now so if this one does not work out, at least he will be 'in the running' for the next one.

DO hope it works with this one though

Now Sylv, that sounds as good as my French!

My life today.....

Meeting all morning on funding for education...

Meeting all afternoon in Pontefract about post compulsory education

Fun hey

Anyhow, I have a spag bol simmering, a gorgeous husband and a lovely thoughtful son waiting to scoff!

JB should hear anytime now as to whether he has an interview at the Uni as they are being held on Friday....which is a very short time scale and makes me wonder if the job has already been allocated to an existing staff member ;)

Cross your bits!

Dea

I can no longer drink either ................... it sets off gastric reflux, which I have to keep under control in case it sets off a pre-cancerous condition ..... I'm currently at the pre-pre-cancerous stage.

It did allow them to have some interesting holdiays ...... like touring wine regions in France. The most impressive was getting a private tour of the Biscuit de bouche (think that's correct) brandy distillers ..... including lunch in the chateau where every drink served through the 5 course meal was actually brandy-based. All the servers were dressed in 18th century style .... and mum-i-l was the senior lady, so received extra attention

OH was with them on that trip (mid-1960's).

He still laughs about the fact that his dad handed him the keys as they emerged from the chateau and said "you drive, I've had too much to drink". OH had had at least as much

........ and he then stopped at the nearest petrol station, asked in French for the amount he wanted

Attendant looked at him in horror

as his sister said from the back seat

"You twit, you asked for 3000 litres. That'd fill the car!"

Like the idea of that Sylvs - buying the wine to take home after the check-up.

Unfortunately, I can't enjoy it nowadays as it does not mix well with all the 'meds'.

One 'little glass' occasionally as a treat !!

Hi all

dull and gray here

Sis-i-l arrived last night, left 8:30 am to catch the bus to the airport

OH was already at the dentist by then .... think he's having root canal surgery

I go at 1:00pm ... mine is just for the 6 month check

OH's father was an old-style optician, English-style ............ did eye exams, wrote prescription, dispensed prescription, helped choose frames, etc. PLUS he was a chemist (JC - pharmacist)

Apparently lots of old-time chemists (he qualified in the mid-1930s) also did the extra training as an optician, and would have the optician's office above their chemist's shop.

In his case, his wife was also a chemist ....... he would be in the shop in the mornings while she worked at home. Then she would go in after lunch, be in charge in the shop, and he would go upstairs and put on his optician's hat.

They also had a wine licence, and sold some good wines in the shop!

see ya's all later
