Yes Renes - that's where I first tasted it. - In Catalunya.

There it is called 'Pa amb tomaquet'. They make it a little differently though but the end result is just as yummy, and you have the added bonus of having to lick the bits of tomato off your fingers after you have turned it inside out and rubbed it on the bread until all you have left is the skin !! - SSooo messy, but nice!

I have tried making it here but most of the time it just tastes like 'wet bread' as our tomatoes often have no flavour.

When I get some nice tasty ones I always treat myself !!

Dea

Thats a real spanish breakfast - tostada con tomate and aceite
R eceta - Hacer un picadillo con tomate y ajo. AƱadir aceite y sal.
Servir sobre una rebanada de pan tostado.tostada con tomate and aceite

Dea also remember we are in the mountains - all the trees are on the banks cut in to "mountains" - I only know about here in the Granada region - and the villages

I also do not like olives - especially the "home made ones" in brine eeeh

Enjoy your day

Good morning all,

Morning Renes, nice to see you, and those cups of tea !!

I have had 2 cups now so I'm almost awake. I enjoyed the fresh country bread, lightly toasted, drizzled with olive oil and rubbed over with fresh tomato, garlic and salt.... heaven !!

I didn't mean your olives were 'wrong', just that you were wrong about your olives. I have travelled extensively in Spain and have seen thousands of olive groves, they always put sheets down on the ground for them to fall into, although, as you say, this may be the more 'Commercial' way to gather them.

Anyway - I hate olives, but I do love almonds, especially when made into a fresh 'Tarta de Santiago'... YYYuuumm !!

I thought I said I'd do it while that other one was away ... like, sometime while that other one was away ... was that just today then? Oh dear.

Salad *with* the quiche or cannellonos, sheesh. Not just salad for breakfast.

Sometimes when I had the girlfriends over for dinner years ago and they crashed for the night I'd make quiche the next morning and use the leftover salad for filling. Quite tasty.

Cynthia Report 4 Sep 2010 22:24

Salad? For brekkie? Noooo thanks. It's the most important meal of the day and we need building up you know.

So........back to cereal/porridge/bacon/eggs/toast/marmalade (any variety) etc.

and ketchup please :))

JaneyCanuck Report 4 Sep 2010 22:17

That's true! They are best after freezing anyway. Fine, I'll leave them by the microwave and you just pop a plate in for about 3 minutes. But I'll still do quiche, sigh.

They're 10 grams of carb per cannellono, for those who count. The quiche will be large-sized pie plate, so a big slab of 1/4 of a quiche will be about 35 grams.

I'd love to leave you a salad to go with but it might be a little wilty. How about some gazpacho? Mmmm. Just happen to have made some of that too, so you're in luck.

Somebody else will have to supply the grease and sugar, I'm afraid. Not that I don't like grease and sugar, it's just that I could never really face them in the morning, hence my never having been a breakfast-eater. ;)

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 4 Sep 2010 22:14

Would prefer bacon and egg thank and if you can manage some tomatoes with that.......yum

Renes

Renes Report 4 Sep 2010 22:04

JaneyCanuck Report 4 Sep 2010 21:27

Okay, haven't read whatever there might be past page 299, but I just got whined at in one of my Monck threads about yer blasted breakfast.

(a) I didn't say *today*!
(b) I'm poorly, or at least in a convulsion of anxiety, and I need to have breakfast made for me, not vice versa, and don't be talking to me about food when I'm fixing to be on a two-day fast ... and worse ...

Oh, whatever. I'll make it tonight and leave it on the counter for you. What do you think, I'm going to get up at 2 a.m. and cook for an hour so you can have breakfast waiting at 8? I don't thiiink so.
