Yep..Runner Bean is a long green bean rather like a French bean ,but much nicer.
And you are right Janey ,they do kind of squeak when cooked after being frozen.

Broad bean is a kind of green Red Kidney bean...

Goggle is good for finding the info if you want it on different kinds of beans..:))

Strawberries are something you absolutely can (and do) freeze! Of course you cut or slice them first, and then expect to use them for cheesecake topping. ;)

What's a runner bean? Just a green bean?

Frozen green beans that you buy are kinda weird. They squeak.

I thought a broad bean was one of the legume kinds, dried like kidney beans ...

Gee

Gee Report 31 Aug 2010 22:36

Yep Ja..x you can 'smooth' em but they are not fit to eat as a whole 'strawb'

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 31 Aug 2010 22:32

Well, MY frozen runner beans are delish.....so there :P
Blanche for one minute, cool and freeze...simple stuff.

Like Janey said, you can freeze anything ...... doesn't mean it will all be successful though!

Gee

Gee Report 31 Aug 2010 22:14

Nope......you can’t freeze EVERYTHING

Strawberries..........anything with a too high water content... turn to mush in the defrosting process

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 31 Aug 2010 22:11

Thanks Sylvs. It was the Brian one. All gone.

I always look for bargains on the bread counter Fans.....toast bread especially. Got a freezer drawerful of home grown runner beans and also locally picked blackberries. A taste of summer for later in the year.
I freeze milk too.

Gins ......... labelling of ingredients is tight over here, hence why they have to put "May contain (dairy, nuts, etc)"

This might have a "mayonnaise" that had not been caught out for not being "real" mayonnaise.

What gets me is when a manufacturer changes ingredients.

Case in point ........ a certain manufacturer makes a Lemon Tea cookie (biscuit to you). I used to be able to eat that as one of the few snacks. Then I had problems ....... turned out there were now "milk ingredients" listed

off to have my hair cut, and afternoon coffee.

Rain has eased off, still below 13C ...... OH didn't have anything else to do at the uni, so he's come home to take me there in the car, so I won't get wet!

isn't he nice?

Janey ......... I guess you might get our chilly weather in about 4 days time!

Daughter will be watching Earl closely, in case he decides to slam into NS, as Juan did back in 2004.

Did find Christina.
Put her name and year of birth in with born Scotland ...and up she popped first hit !!

Goody goody,will freeze em then.

Bought loads today, lemon ones and Pecan and Caramel..yummy.

They were marked down so very cheap and still really fresh so I just could NOT resist them.

Good luck with the Horrid cane...

You can freeze *everything*. Some things you will wish you hadn't ... but cupcakes, definitely.

I take it FBG has found Christina Wilson in 1881.

It is so &^%$ hot and humid here right now, and me so in need of a shower, the brain is a little stewed.

If we get the tail end of the hurricane, that should cool it down. What's it called. I remember I joked about it last night. Oh yes, his name is Earl.

P.S ...Can you freeze cup cakes?

Gee

Gee Report 31 Aug 2010 21:03

I think the UK must have more stringent laws on what is or isn’t allowed on food labels

But they could be much better...as in a V or VG and DF on EVERY product

I feel for you Sylv....a nightmare

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 31 Aug 2010 20:38

Gins

it is indeed

but I've had the occasional problem from a mayonnaise in a cafe (eg on sushi, or other)

and have so far found one (cheap) make that says "may contain dairy"

I hasten to say that was a bottle I checked in the supermarket
