Cynthia its great that your friend has improved so much.

I remember years ago one of my sons was ill and lying on the couch and they were showing an old Norman Wisdom film in black and white and he laughed so much at it.

'singing' cowboys............ :-S :-S :-S :-S

John Wayne & Jim Stewart?

Jonesey

Jonesey Report 29 Nov 2012 22:38

Its lies all lies I tell you ! Contrary to what Cyn may tell you I did not attend the 1939 première of Stagecoach starring John Wayne.

I do however recall the program being broadcast as my families first television was being installed in the family home in 1954. It was Hopalong Cassidy starring William Boyd. As the set warmed up the horizontal hold needed adjustment as the bottom half of the picture was at the top of the screen and the top half of the picture at the bottom. Hopalong's horse was treading on Hopalong's head. (Hands up all those old enough to remember Tv sets needing to warm up and having to adjust the horizontal hold to stop the picture from rolling)

As far as films were concerned I used to thoroughly enjoy the ones shown on television in the late 1950's such as those featuring such characters as Arthur Lucan (Old Mother Riley) and George Formby. I was also enthralled by those films produced by Alexander Korda such as The Thief of Bagdad and Jungle Book, starring Sabu.

In my early teens my father and I often went to the local flea pit on a Friday night to watch whatever they were showing there which might have featured anyone from Norman Wisdom to Marlon Brando. In fact having a childhood such as that probably explains my rather eclectic DVD collection.

Somehow, I can't see the point in 'singing' cowboys............or, maybe I should say, westerns with music!

You can have my recliner while you watch Gins.......I'll go in the other room!!

Night all ~~~~~~~

Gee Report 29 Nov 2012 19:56

Gee

Gee Report 29 Nov 2012 19:54

Cyns

I love old westerns..Jimmy Stuart, John Wayne, me and JB always look for those on a Sun/Sat afternoon

I'll pop over and watch with him

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 29 Nov 2012 19:46

Nah.....she's just got a crackered TV Gins.

Took my friend out and had a nice coffee at a garden centre. She bought a little fibre optic tree to go on her table. Such a change from two years ago when she couldn't even write her own Christmas cards - I did them for her..... :-D

OH is going through a phase of watching old cowboy films. He's just put a relatively modern one on - 1952!!! It starts off......"This is the Texas of today....." it's all in black and white :-D

I often say to him - 'did you really pay to watch these at the cinema?' :-D

Bet Jonesey did too !! :-D ;-)

Gee

Gee Report 29 Nov 2012 14:02
