Gin,

Scales had been invented (It was in 1970) but we did not have any. :-P

My daughter was born at home because in the area we lived at the time unless birth complications were anticipated going into hospital to have your baby was not an option. My wife started labour on Friday afternoon but her waters did not break until 6:00am on Sunday morning. Our instructions were to ring the midwife when that happened and as we did not have a phone at home I went to the nearest public phone box to make the call. The midwife answered saying that as her car had broken down the previous day she would have to arrange for someone to give her a lift. I said that I would pick her up myself so after returning home to advise Mrs J that is exactly what I did.

The daughter was delivered (I helped to deliver her) at 12:30pm after which the midwife came to weigh her and realised that she had not got the spring balance she normally used to weigh newborn babies with her, it was in her broken down car.

Oh what an exiting life I have led. :-D

Jonesey I had a laugh at that. Hope your daughter is feeling better now that she is home <3

Sylvia hope your S-I-L starts her treatment soon its good that she is upbeat a positive attitude is half the battle :-)

we have been comparing pictures of the two grandaughters and they are like two peas in a pod :-D

Son No 1 was 10 lbs (the doctors asked us what weight we both were and couldnt understand why I had had such a heavy baby.. Turns out my Dad was a 12 pounder 1928 and my poor Grans firstborn. OUCH) I have twin brothers and my Mum used to say she got two for the price of one comparing their birthweight to my sons :-)

Son No 2 was 8lb 8oz but son No 3 was 8lb 13oz and 23 and a half inches long.
he is over 6ft now. :-D

Many congratulations Linds......yes, she's a beautiful little baby and you must be feeling so relieved that it's all over. <3

It must be helpful that your s-i-l is in good spirits Sylvs. Love to you all.

Jonesey, I guess all cooking was done by experience rather than exact measurements then..... love it!

My son was the size of an oven ready turkey! 9lb 11oz.

Ouch.

Have been busy with this and that today and have been playing very nicely thank you.

Took my friend out for a coffee which she thoroughly enjoyed.

we're in a waiting period with s-i-l ....................

waiting for her to get an appointment at the Agency, to get treatment options and to make a decision, and then for treatment to start.

I think it will be several weeks before we know anymore

but she is in good spirits ............ and she has deep faith to help support her.
