Oh bless him....17, I did numbers like that a few years ago and its NOT easy, but the plus side is, seeing the happy faces, munching away :-D

I cant do the veg now as we have some people 'dropping' in!

Cyns, Im sorry that you cant get to church tonight...I know how much it means to you x

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 24 Dec 2011 18:55

Just checked my son's FB. He is doing the veg tonight - he's catering for 17 tomorrow!!!

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 24 Dec 2011 18:48

You don't need to leave the carrots in water Gins, but certainly the spuds. No salt. My weekend veg have always usually been prepared the night before because of church on Sundays.

If things are covered, the garage will be a good place as Dea says. Take it from us 'oldies'........ we didn't always have a fridge you know ;-)

The turkey would be okay out there too! We used to hang ours from the rafters of the garage to keep it out of harm's way :-D

I know you used to go to midnight mass Gins and that now you don't want to - but we want to go and can't :-(

Making do with 9 Lessons and Carols from Kings College :-D

Not with the amount of spiders in my garage Dea......the porch might be an option though

Dea

Dea Report 24 Dec 2011 17:49

In this sort of weather - the garage will probably do very well !!

Thanks Dea....have you seen my fridge, its half full with a dead bird, sliced up pig, pigs in blankets, wafer thin pig and the rest seems to be cheese from all corners of the world

It stinks :-0

Dea

Dea Report 24 Dec 2011 17:42

You can certainly do that to some veg Ginns, though I don't know about salting it at this stage ?? - Wash it well tomorrow before using them as potatoes can go a bit 'starchy' if left in water.

Also a good idea to leave them in the fridge if poss!!

Things like sprouts are best not to do in this way as they soak up the water, I find and open up ??

We used to go to midnight mass years ago

Im shoving some jacket spuds in the oven, I aint cookin tonight

Question girls and boys (not that they would know)

Can I peel and chop all my veg tonight and leave them soaking in salted water until tomorrow?

Never done if before, always had everyone in the kitchen on the big day doing it along side me

Im doing my Yorkshire pudding tonight and leaving overnight in the fridge, gets all the onion and sage flavour into the batter mix.....nom nom

Off to the takeaway and then, hopefully, a peaceful evening.

Used to go to the midnight service but that's not really feasible now :-(

Dea

Dea Report 24 Dec 2011 14:03

That was what the 'public' called it Ginns - within the Health Service it was more discretely named the 'Special Clinic' ;-) :-D

The people that will come over for lunch and the ones in the evening have spent lots of time with us already so it makes no odds really

Just finished wrapping, now got to go out and get cash for cards and JBs Christmas card as I forgot about that :-S

The Im coming home and having an hours kip!

Dea re your clinic.....we used to call it the clap clinic :-0

Dea

Dea Report 24 Dec 2011 13:15

Yes thanks Cynthia, it only seemed to last for 24 hours but then I had it yesterday (though not nearly as bad as hubby). Obviously just some sort of 'little bug' that is going around.

He was REALLY bad - hot, cold, shivering, sweating, shaking, dizzy, nauseous etc..

I was lucky, just felt a bit holt, cold and queezy on and off all day.

We are O.K. now - it's all the others on here that I am worried about !!! - Can you catch 'nasty things' orf the internet??? - I know that bugs from there can get into your computer - can they get to you too ??? :-S :-0

Glad you've got them sorted Gins.........will you still be having guests over Christmas though - was just wondering in case any of them have health problems too - and you don't want to be responsible for anyone else being poorly :-S :-S

Ne'er mind the drink.....get those meds down them.... :-D

We are hoping to go to son's for lunch but a lot will depend on how OH's meds kick in - what a lot we are to be sure. :-(

How are things with your daughter Persie?

Dea .......what about your OH, has he recovered from whatever it was??

Hiya Det............ :-D :-) ;-) :-D :-) ;-)

Dea

Dea Report 24 Dec 2011 12:31

Typical Ginns!! :-|

Just you reming them, especially JB that people have been known to die of whooping cough, even nowadays, although rare!!

People with existing health complications like Asthma, or COPD (which I have) are at much greater risk and I have no doubt that a bout of it could well 'finish me off', so he should take these things more seriously!!!

Take care all!

Thanks Dea

Thier only concern as I drove them to the hospital?

If we have to have meds...............we better be able to drink on them!
