With my OH now having Parkinson's, I am beginning to look at websites such as easylife (or somesuch). They have loads of things to make life easier for those who struggle with everyday things. Just bought a longer bathmat to avoid him slipping when in the shower. Don't know how long he will be able to get in the bath but we press on. Have wondered about getting those things which help people put socks and stockings on but he is coping at the moment.

You could always try going out to a place which has booths so that you would be sheltered from public gaze ......just a thought.

What's going on with Dea..... :-S :-S

I hav'nt looked at them cyn but will do later thanks.

My problems are all down the right side so driving is out , although I did think of adaptions it is too much like hard work getting to and from the car as it is, so I dont think I will bother now. Writing is also very difficult as I cannot grip.

As for stockings if I ever wore a skirt in the past I only ever wore them, since the mid 80s anyway, not sure if I could now as I need help putting socks on.

I would love to go out for a meal every now and then, but feel very conscious about eating in public.
We tend to eat a lot of meals with rice that way I dont need to cut my food and maybe a spook thing would be something to think about in the future.

What ARE you on about Dea?? :-S

Were those sites any good jax? I realise that you have difficulty with hand movements as my mum had much the same problem. She only had the limited use of her left hand but she used to get round problems if she could. She used her teeth for opening letters and stuff and would wedge things with her elbow if she could.

She used to have what was called a 'Spork' - a spoon and fork combination. I've seen them around recently but, back in the '70's and '80's, they were quite an innovation. She also needed 'fat' pens and pencils which were easier to grip.

She never wore tights, always stockings as she had a supportive surgical corset. I got pretty good at fastening her suspenders in the twinkling of an eye.... :-D It was amazing what she could do at times considering her limitations.

Does Renes use an IPad? I seem to think she might.....she might be able to give you some advice as what it does and doesnt

You can get it with 3G so you can use along side your iphone but its £100 more than the wifi one

Gee Report 19 Dec 2011 19:25

What have you lost Dea?

jax

jax Report 19 Dec 2011 19:25

Ok this is how I use my laptop now. I cannot sit up too long so I lie on the sofa with a beanie tray with laptop I also have a dinner placemat wedged underneath sticking out the side with a wireless mouse on.

I broke the buttons on the laptop so I could'nt copy and paste, but now I have the wireless mouse it is easier because I can now just use my left hand.

If I had an ipad it would have to do everything, and I have been told they do not...so I have dismissed that now

ipads can stand jax, they have a gizmo at the back. What about one of those lap trays? I have a computer tray but an ordinary beanie type tray is just as good.

Had a sudden thought and looked through google.....you may find these sites helpful - there are more....

I have been put off the Ipad now as it does not do everything I want.

As for holding it thats fine... but I do not have full use of my right hand anymore so it would need to be supported somehow.

Ja..x asn Ipad2 is really light and you can hold it on one hand but you need to check the size to see if its a big enough screen

Pers, hope your daughter gets well, as soon as......the hospital dont seem in any rush do they

That is exactly why you should let them know in advance Ja....x - then they can give you someone to go around with you and help you choose the right one !!!

Most places nowadays can be quite helpful - PC World or Curry's - but Curry's always need to be advised prior to the visit, I find !!

I think I will go to customer services next time Dea

Oh I am in a wheelchair or scooter, I could'nt walk to the door let alone around a store.

Trouble is when you are low down it is difficult to see and they tend to have so many on display when they are the same model but a different colour...soooo annoying

Dea

Dea Report 19 Dec 2011 15:45

Just go to the 'Customer Services' when you arrive Ja....x and tell them that you need an assistant to go around with you and help you assess the products !!

Maybe e-mail your local branch in advance ???

Go on your 'scooter or better still, in your wheelchair! and insist that they unplug the products so that you can 'try them out' ;-)

We went to PC world a couple of months ago to have a look at laptops but they all have these wires attached to stop you nicking them

It was a bit embarrassing when the alarms went off :-D How can I tell the weight when I cannot put it on my lap?

I am not much of a reader and only like biographys anyway, but have bought HID a kindle for xmas so at least I can see what they are like.
