Hospitals do have some funny goings on.. with their regimes and regulations.
When I was a child having my appendix out in a private hospital (now part of Auckland university campus) someone came and woke me to see if I would like some soup.. no I didn't I just wanted to sleep.

When she arrived her room was empty (think it had four beds) she took a photo of one side with a pic of two empty beds and titled it "my new friends" In our public system you don't pay anything but if you are a foreigner you do. When OH was working in his work package they paid our medical insurance so we would go private quite a lot - better food for a start.

I think the noisy person in her ward was along the corridor in another room.

I will have a gluten free muffin thanks.. I will just go and warm it up in the microwave...

I have just been watching an Aussie program... this elderly woman being reunited with her adult children... she gave up her first son called him Keith Robert (he was in the UK) and then she gave up her second son - called him Keith Robert but she used to visit him in the boys home for quite sometime... then she had to tell the two Keith Roberts that they had a sister Karen Roberta so we saw her... now they have to find an older sister you can guess what her name is.

What a conundrum...

The last time I went in, (about 18 months ago), I was taken into the 'emergency diagnostic' ward where you stay until they have sorted out what is wrong with you and got your treatment under control. Must have been about 16 -18 people?

I was there 2 days and nights and during that time I disn't sleep at all!

The lights had to remain on ALL the time as people were being brought in constantly and coming and going for various tests.

The Consultants and their 'teams' came around every hour or so, even through the night and there were only curtains around the beds so you could hear EVERYTHING that was being discussed in all it's 'gory' detail.

It was also a 'mixed ward' so I was surrounded by men as well as women but, strangely, no one cared as the Staff were SO brilliant and we were all SO ill that none of that mattered.

P.S. - Even talking about being in hospital has made me hungry now! - Let me at that lovely breakfast...................... %3A-D %3A-D %26lt%3B3

Morning, Gins!

We have this Dutch Reform Church, mainly centred in a town about 80 km away from here ................ they don't believe in any kind of vaccination at all.

So, relatives come in from Holland for a visit, kids bring in whichever disease is around, infect all the kids in the church(es) .................. then it spreads to the larger population because the schools play sports against each other.

We've had epidemics of measles, mononucleosis, chicken pox, whooping cough, rubella in recent years ......... and they all take about a year to 18 months to get through the cycle.

sigh indeed!

Do you have large wards in NZ, Persie?

We don't have any wards larger than 5 or 6 beds ..... and they are quite rare.

The usual choices are 4 bed, 2 bed or 1 bed.

A bed in a 4-bed ward is usually free, or a nominal fee (ca $10/~£5) a day, for BC residents.

It is not at all uncommon to ask for a bed in a 4-bed ward, and get upgraded to a 2-bed, or even a single, because the 4-bed wards are all full. And you don't then pay the extra costs.

I opted to pay the much larger amount for a 2-bed ward this time around, because I wanted to be sure that I got some sleep.

HAH!

My roommate was not noisy .......... but she, I'm pretty certain, was in early stages of dementia.

She was up, dressed, and wandering around by 4:15 am ........... ready for her daughter to arrive after 6:30 am to get a 6:45 am lift to the "big" hospital for a scan. For which, she was not supposed to get dressed ..... a transfer ambulance takes patients in nightie and gown in !

The bathroom door was opposite my bed, and I'd got used to the light being on (as well as the light from the hallway) ....... it was the darkening every time she closed the door that got me.

The nurse had disturbed me at 9, 10, 11, and 12:30 am (all because of the high blood pressure problem) ........ at 12:30 am, she gave me a pill to help me sleep and also decided to give me the pill she was supposed to give me at 2:30 am (???)

So I got a little less than 4 hours sleep!

I went straight to bed when OH got me home!

She did not have a good night's sleep ...
in her words: Super offensive patient keeping the whole ward awake, some people are so full of anger. All the staff at Kenepuru are professional & hard working & don't deserve harrassment by a self righteous little prick.

So she has said that as long as her husband and MIL keep their swearing and shouting in check all will be fine.. LOL (they are both so quiet - though SIL can be noisy when he is doing Old MacDonald had a farm.. his farm has a gibbon and the gibbon is very loud - August loves it)

I did water aerobics for an hour today.. loads of fun.. also did a bit of a workout at the gym.... we went to a local place ... have what one calls a green prescription this gets you into the gym and pool for $4. a time otherwise it can get expensive.
The instructor asked me if my OH and myself would like to go to lunch with the group (he didn't take part in that .. he had a swim and then read the paper) had to decline... can't very well take your sachet along and ask for water..

Yes it is going to be a fun Christmas.. %3A-0

I like the idea of a massage Sylvs... I used to go for them regularly years and years ago until the person moved out of the district... I found it very beneficial.

glad to hear that all went well with your daughter.

I was only in one night after the mastectomy .......... and that was only because they took the Sentinel node out. If they had not done that, then I would have been sent home in late afternoon, after an operation that started about 8:15 am.

Gins

sorry to hear you might have whooping cough

Many of these "old" diseases are occurring over here

Main reason ...... the people who have refused to have their children vaccinated

There's the religious fanatics ........... particularly a certain group of Protestant-type who come from Holland.

but then there are the educated middle- and upper-class (for lack of better words) whites who "have seriously discussed and investigated" and have decided that "their" child does not need vaccination "because the disease(s) is so rare that the possible side effects outweigh the benefits".

I felt sorry for a neighbour... she had just moved in next door to me (it is what they call a housing corp house owned by the state) and the place was damp so I lent her my dehumidifier... and after quite some time I asked for it back.. she said yes she would clean it and send it over, then one of the kids spilt something on it then she said it was down country with her brother who was fixing it... I said to himself I reckon she has either sold it or pawned it.. so he went over and said " It has been suggested to us that you may have pawned it" oooh no I wouldn't do that..... two days later a letter of apology from her ... yes she had pawned it... didn't pawn her TV or any of her stuff just my dehumidifier... she paid us back via Presbyterian services at $20 a week. They overpaid me and boy was she around pronto to get that back. Needless to say she went .. felt sorry for her two young lads but I will say this she wasn't half as bad as the people before her.

So now I am reluctant to lend or even give anything to anyone with a hard luck story... it goes to the Red Cross or the Sallies and I let them figure it out.

We have nice neighbours now. %3A-%29

Morning all, hope that you are well...freezing here today, waiting for the sun to appear.

I have a load of old photo's and invoices that I got eyars ago from a clearance auction, that I thought I'd try and trace if there is any family left I can pass them on to. It looks as though some of the family came from Bromley, Kent which I was hoping was a quiet little town, only to google it and find out it is part of London, so I guess it will make it a bit more difficult!
