Grand daughter had a sleepover last night. She woke up at 5am and just managed to get her snug and settled when the doorbell rang at 10 to 6.Daughter and her boyfriend had been travelling across London from Wembley on Night buses and had forgotten their keys.

Gins! We have NOT snuffed it..............how very dare you!

Dea will have nightmares if we leave her here alone..........

My membership is due in January I think, but I'm gonna stay around.

aaaawwwwwwww Gins

but I know what you mean!

Fred is going stronger than some of the other threads, you know?! Some of the other long-time threads I look on, often go 2 or more days before any of the regulars post ........... and they used to post every day, for eyars and years.

I don't think GR realises what a mess they've got themselves into.

My membership doesn't run out until June next year.

One option may be to consider FTM ..... a free site, started by disaffected GR members back in 2007, but much better run .... and it has Chat threads that are much less antagonisitc than on here :))

The mind boggles!

Glad you had a good time despite your discomfort Sylvs. I must admit that shoe comfort is incredibly important as one gets......er...um.....older. I use to love court shoes with heels but give me a good flattie now and I'm happy - especially whilst shopping.

I do have more stylish shoes for special occasions but prefer my comfortable ones.

:-D

We have an Ikea about 10-15 minutes drive away, across the river.

We go there quite frequently.

I like the Elderflower drink they sell in their shop.

It's also now one of the very few places where we can buy UNICEF Christmas cards ....... our favoured choice for something like 30 years!

But I have also come to like their sheets and pillow cases ................ 100% cotton, very soft and comfortable, and a very good price.

They seem to last just as long as much more expensive ones from other stores ........ and don't have any polyester in them as the other makes almost always have, unless you go to the very top end of the market.

OH has a bit of a problem on his face with a dermatological (possibly cancer) condition, that means he picks away at it. He goes to a dermatologist at least once a year, and he "zaps" them with liquid nitrogen (so not very serious cancer)

...................... but the picking makes them bleed, and pretty soon, every pillowcase has got blood marks on it.

I find it next to impossible to get rid of the mark

............. and I don't feel guilty at frequently replacing them at Ikea prices :-)

The one thing that was not good last night was that I personally was not too comfortable.

I have a bit of a problem with an Achilles tendon, which decided to start acting up on Wednesday. I have been treating it with ice packs and exercises, as per instructions

........... but I didn't realise that the shoes I chose to wear (normally very comfortable and smartish looking) would aggravate it until we were walking across the floor of the parkade downtown.

Amazing how a tiny bit of discomfort can magnify over the evening :-(

Sylvia

You said:

We had a lovely evening yestersay (except for one thing)

Then you told us all the wonderful bits but didn't tell us what the 'one thing' was !!

I want to go to bed now but the suspense is killing me :-D :-D

We had a lovely evening yestersay (except for one thing)

We went to the Vancouver Opera to see Romeo et Juliette (no prizes for guessing what that is based on :-) )

It was very well done, chorus great, etc, and the main singers really great to fantastic.

Esepcially the soprano who played Juliette, who was magnificent, and got a standing ovation

............. and the icing on the cake for us was that she, Simone Osborne, has come up through the Student Opera program that OH is involved with.

Just 4 years ago, she was 2 years into her music degree, with a fantastic voice. Then she won one of the New York Metropolitan Opera's BIG prizes .................. at the age of only 21, which is almost unheard-of-young.

Since then, she has shortened her academic studies to get a Diploma, and has been singing and being mentored at the Met, and is in her second year with the Canadian Opera.

She is now 24, and Juliette was her first starring role.

She's going to go far!

Oh yes ................... she's also a good actress, and very good looking to add to it, and is a delightful person!

I seem to remember that you then 'warmed yourself up' with a LOT of food though Sylvs !! AND gave the impression that you had imbibed more than a little of the old 'vino' ???

Hiccupped all the way off to bed and couldn't get up in the morning ???

Nice to see you now though !!!
