Hi Derek..........Been quiet on your boards for a while, hope you are well.

When you have a few moments to spare could you check the details of a marriage for me?

SUSAN VIOLET RUTLAND, born 1899 Longford, married in Burton 1817 possibly to ROBERT S MARTIN. Middle initial possibly STIRLING

Need to confirm her parents if possible to make sure I have correct wedding. They were William Rutland and Mary Ann previously Gregson.

Many Thanks
Susan :-D

re the above thread

I have been in touch with the Staffordshire Record Office and have received online a photostat copy of the marriage. It occurred on 3rd May, 1819 (two months before the birth of Edwin). The parties were William Parker and Harriet Swindall.

Could this be the marriage that I am looking for ?????????

regards
joseph

Thank you Derek. I am hoping to now have more time for my research so you will no doubt be seeing me again :-D :-D

EDIT. Any idea when John's son Henry was born and who John married please

Derek

Derek Report 28 Aug 2014 13:14

Hello Gooner..nice to hear from you after so long............

THOMAS MAW was born 23.07.1774, baptised 13.08.1774 at Derby..son of Henry and Jane........will look for them, though first attempts have failed.

THOMAS MAW married SARAH WOOD at All Saints Derby 10.04.1798..there are too many Sarah Woods to be sure of pinning her down, but if its possible, I'll do it!!

They had the following children all baptised at All Saints Derby:-

Sarah 19.10.1799
John 16.03.1801
Louisa 26.04.1804
Ann 20.11.1805
Elizabeth 17.06.1807
Charlotte 21.12.1808
Joseph 18.06.1814
William 03.02.1816

The girls would be difficult to track, because I assume they would all be married by 1841. One or two interesting snippets though about:-

John Maw..had a son Henry in 1848 who married Catherine Lamb 29.05.1871

William Maw..in 1881 was a widower in Derby Workhouse at Markeaton

Joseph Maw..a marble mason, was in Derby Prison in 1841..married to Eliza with three kids by 1851....

more if and when I find.....

Derek.

Derek Report 26 Aug 2014 16:34

Hello Marian..I have sent you a PM to show you how to get back to this Thread.
My initial findings bout the Bailey's are that you have gone wrong.
Assuming you are right at Lydia Bailey born 1909..the you're ok back through William Bailey 1885 Eckington..to William Joseph Bailey 08.07.1860 Tipton Staffs......and that is where i appears to all go wrong.

The father of William Bailey 1860 Tipton is JOSEPH BAILEY 1820 Lilleshall Shropshire..NOT Joseph Bailey 1830

You''ll see tye evidence on both the 1861 and 1871 Censuses.

Once you're back on the Thread. I'll explain further.

Derek.

Derek Report 23 Aug 2014 11:50

Hi Sally..I think you're probably up the creek...these occurrences took place in the Ashbourne area......and there were two..probably the same man...i.e. Francis Purdy..Pork Butcher ,and according to the case of "feloniously wounding" a police officer, for which he was acquitted he was 31, having been born 1860..This was reported in the Derby Mercury 22.07.1891......
he second occurrence when Francis Purdy was up before the beak was 18.07.1898..for felonious assault..when he went a bit doolally driving a horse and cart and behaving very dangerously..during which he assaulted a Police Officer, was found guilty and fined £10..............

Hi sally....I think it is your Francis,,because I found it somewhere else.but if you give me tha dates of the gut who IS your Francis...I can look in the newspapers for the report, which should give his age.
Alternatively tell me where you saw your report, and I'll see if i can read it better than you can.....
and don't worry about taking over my Post...its very quiet and you're keeping it up there where it can be seen...............saves me nudging it up..............
Everybody has gone of on Hols and deserted me..or Derbyshire is empty!!
