Can anyone help me? I am trying to find anything on my grandmothers history. I would love to know more about her parents. No one is now living that can tell me anything. Would love to know more about her mother? Nannie was born in 1914 and lived in Commercial Way, Peckham. Next to the Draymen's Arms we think. Her family all lived at this address. Her father was apparently a milkman/draymen and delivered to a shop that is still in this area, it was a dairy then? She had sisters Ivy and Vi, brothers Lennie, Reggie and George. She went on to marry Charles Alfred Wakely of Ledbury Street. They lived in Tooting and Carshalton before moving to Tunbridge Wells. I would love to know more about my grandmothers history. She lost all photos in the Blitz so nothing earlier than that survived.
Many thanks

Oh, thank you....I am overwhelmed! I am new to this and not sure how it all works. The records you've given me are incredible! I really am thrilled to bits. Now to work out how to go further with this information.
Thanks again, never thought I'd get such a rapid response :-)

Hi Rebecca, as you are new to this family tree lark allow me to give you just a few tips for your research.
To be 100% sure that your tree is correct, then any information that you find should always be backed up by proof, such as marriage, birth or death certificates. Census records are also really helpfull but not completely reliable.

Therefore the first thing that you need to do now, is to buy a copy of the marriage certificate of Maud Chadband and George Parrish, if indeed you are sure that these are the parents of Doris.

If you're not sure about the names of her parents you may want to buy the birth certificate just to be sure, although birth records after 1911 do give mother's maiden name and the marriage shown above is the only one with male Parrish to female Chadband so that does look to be correct and the siblings names that you have given all show with same mother's maiden name so very likely.

Once you have the marriage certificate this should give you the ages of the couple getting married, their occupations, address at the time of marriage, their father's names and occupations and witnesses names that may be relatives.

You can then check the census information that I have provided above to see if everything fits and if it does then you have a good base for moving backwards in time to find more ancestors.

The census records are very helpfull as they do give you ages and places of birth, although as I said earlier they are not always 100% correct so you need to keep an open mind. You can sometimes, if you're lucky find parents or brothers and sisters all living together which helps enormously to find or confirm information that you find.

If it turns out that the census records above are not correct, then please come back and let us know what information is on the marriage certificate so we can help you find the correct records.

Good luck with your research, but just to finish, if you do get stuck then there are plenty of people here that would be more than willing to help you, although once you get started it's much more fun to find the information yourself.

Hope that's all clear, Regards, Catherine

Thank you Catherine! I have enjoyed the time spent looking on here and am really touched by the information given so freely by yourselves and everyone else. I have so much to be going on with, it's very exciting. My ultimate goal is to see if there are any photos on the internet of my great grandmother or great grandfather as like I said before, my nana lost all her photos in the Blitz and would love to know what they looked like. Thanks again for all your help, will carry on with the search and update on anything I find or any other questions I have should I find anything else! So exciting! x

Hi, I was searching for information about my grandmother's family when I came across your post. My great grandfather, Frederick Nowell and his family lived at 157 Southampton Way or Street, Camberwell, and according to the 1911 and 1901 Census, he was a Newsagent's Assistant. I can't help but wonder if he worked with your George Parrish in his Newsagency, given their addresses and occupations. We will likely never know, but it's fun to imagine.
Best wishes.
Kim Lethbridge
