Find Ancestors

hi hope i posted this in the correct place

ive been searching for my grandfather Joseph A Bather i can find a marriage and death but no birth i got the year from his death ive search either side an every combination i think possible i then spoke to a family member who said he may have been adopted but they couldnt be sure.

so my question is how can i find out if he was?ive just sent for his birth certificate with the limited info i have in the hope it sheds some light but thought i would also ask here

all i have is Joseph A Bather dob 1910 area is possible Ruthin Denbighshire but it was a very elderly relative who said he may have been adopted im just trying every line i can to see

What birth cert have you sent for as can't see a birth record :-)

i think its just a normal one through the gro 9.25 i wasnt sure if he was adopted but it seems more so maybe i should of ordered one of them

If he was adopted in 1910 there will not be a record as all adoptions were informal until the 1930s.
Possibly his mother re married & he became known by the surname of his stepfather.
There are several instances of this in my family.

my mum is 79 an she never knew sadly my father passed in 1976 an it was thought he never knew an my granmother possibly knew but never let on but he did die at an early age to
