Has anyone got an access to the 1939 register? I'm looking for my grandfathers wife? She was called Nellie Davies (nee Clark) & was married to Joseph Davies. They would probably of been in Dalton-in-Furness area & would probably,at that time, have 3-4 children? They married in Dalton-in-Furness in 1933. Also looking for any info on Josephs death.I do have several dates in the Barrow-in-Furness area, but without his age-which will be on the register (possibly),I can't confirm. He must of died prior to 1976 as that's when Nellie married my grandfather-James Kell.Any help much appreciated.

There's three closed records below Nellie on the record that Maddie has posted above.

Not seeing the 1933 marriage you refer to. Do you have the marriage certificate please? That would give Joseph's age.

Yes, saw that Malyon but wrong name and county.

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 10 Feb 2017 13:09

That's definitely the correct Nellie on the 1939 register as DOB matches Nellie Kell death.

could nellies husband gone to war in 1939 so not at home

there are 4 children born 3 born 1933 -1936 the one born1943 so a big gap of 7yrs

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 10 Feb 2017 13:28

Although the surname is clearly Davis on the marriage index, the three children with Nellie in 1939 are registered as Davies.

Paul, you probably need the marriage certificate to get Joseph's age.

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 10 Feb 2017 13:30

There's another possible child in 1943 so that may narrow the time scale for Joseph's death.

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 10 Feb 2017 13:32

Sorry, just noticed Malyon had edited the last post to include that 1943 birth.

malyon

malyon Report 10 Feb 2017 13:42

There's also John Ronald Davies born 04/12/1946 in Ulverston.Joseph has probably gone to war? They did live at 25,Thornton Park,dalton-my grandad lived across the road at 28.I haven't got the marriage certificate. Many thanks for your help.Just need to find his death, birth or something to give an indication of where he was from, occupation etc.

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 10 Feb 2017 14:38

A birth certificate of one of the children would give his occupation but if you buy his marriage certificate it will give his age, occupation and his father's name and occupation if known. It may then be possible to trace him on the 1911 census.

Apart from 1 of those deaths for Joseph Davies in Barrow, they would all be a bit old to serve in WW2. The one who would have been of age would have been too young to marry in 1933. Did Nellie say she was widowed when she married your grandfather please? You really need that marriage certificate as Joseph could have died anywhere.

Did you know that Nellie's parents in 1939 lived next door (at number 30) to James Kell and his family?

Kelzi

Kelzi Report 10 Feb 2017 21:17

Well,i didn't know that !!! I do know that my grandad married my nanna in the same Q as Joseph & Nellie, quite possibly in the same church (Dalton St.Marys?) on the same day? Maybe even Ulverston Register Office?
