When I am confident that I've got everything from the old list I'll delete it and just keep this one

Information about Belfast FHC centre (UPto date November 2006)

Slightly different to the two centres I've used in England. You just turn up and are guaranteed an hours research (so best to know exactly what you want to look at!!) Apparently if there are lots of people that day then the person who has been on the film reader the longest (over an hour) is asked to vacate the reader within the next 5/10 minutes to make way for the next in the queue.

The old list was a complete mess so I've put all the information in alphabetical county order in the second post (hopefully I won't manage to delete it again!!

ALSO IN DUBLIN

The Dublin PUBLIC libraries also have the full BMD index available on computer.

The Gilbert Library in Pearse Street, it's a part of the Dublin City Archives, they have a full microfilm set of all the indexes which can be viewed free of charge.

RESEARCH IN DUBLIN

The GRO Research Centre, Joyce House, 8/11 Lombard Street East , Dublin , 2. The registers are very similar to the English ones. There is a fee of €20.00 per day, or €2.00 for a particular search of up to 5 years.

The National Library of Ireland, Kildare Street has the main microfilm collection of the Catholic Parish Registers. A genealogy advisory service is available free of charge to personal callers to the Library who wish to research their family history in Ireland. The primary aim of the service is to explain to first time researchers the sources that may be available to them in the Library and elsewhere.

The National Archives of Ireland, Bishop Street, holds the 1901 and 1911 census on microfilm. However there is no name search index, so you need to know the area. This may be about to change because the project to index the records is now well underway. You need a reader's ticket, which is free, but you need to have ID such as a passport.
