Oh, OK- I think this is the 1861 census where you have William's info from:

William Emburey Head Married Male 57 1804 Clog Dealer York Selby
Mary Emburey Wife Married Female 65 1796 York, Selby
John Wilson Patterson Servant Unmarried Male 21 1840 Carter Morpeth, Northumberland,
Street Village Of Barlow
Parish Winlaton
County Durham
Ecclesiastical district St Pauls
Registration district Gateshead
Enumeration district 4
Piece number 3808
Folio number 80
Page number 3

Occupation could also be Clay dealer- not clear on original

Hello Joseph- just for a reference for William's birth, do you have the details of William and Mary on the 1861 census?

Joseph

Joseph Report 16 Oct 2014 09:28

I apologise for not including all details but the accuracy I am not 100% certain.

I have no details of the parents of WILLIAM (H)EMBROUGH born c1804 Selby Yorkshire.
And as for MARY AUDUS I think her parents were William Audus christened 3rd October 1769 Howden Yorkshire who married Mary Chapel born c1771 Cowick Yorkshire. They had 5 children - Mary - Thomas - William - John - Elizabeth which can be located on LSD.

POSSIBLY Wiliiam Audus's parents were THOMAS AUDUS christened 7th November 1732 in Drax Yorkshire who on 7th July 1761 in Howden Yorkshire married ANN KIRTISON born unknown. This is only an assumption at this point in time as I cannot validate the details.

The LDS site is the source of the baptism I posted.

I wonder why didn't you notice her father's name?

And some indication that you've seen the info posted would be good

I have checked LSD and Ancestry and contact several people but I have come to a dead end on all lines of enquiry. I think I need some spark of inspiration.

Joseph Report 15 Oct 2014 16:26

My ancestors MARGARET EMBROUGH born 10th September 1842 at Dewley / Newham in Castle Ward Northumberland and died c1890 Winlaton married JOHN GARDNER born c1839 Barlow Letch and died c1899 Winlaton.

Margaret's parents were WILLIAM EMBROUGH born c1804 Selby Yorkshire and died circa 1864 who married MARY AUDUS born 4th February 1798 Selby and died c1873 Tudhoe.

My queries are:
(1) I cannot find William and Mary in the 1841 or 1851 census returns, where were they?
(2) When were William and Mary married and was this their 1st marriage?
(3) Did they have any other children?
(4) Who were William's parents and grandparents?
(5) Who were Mary's parents and grandparents?

It is possible that the surname EMBROUGH might be a variant of EMBURY or HEMBROUGH but not certain of this.

Can anybody help me please
JIG
