Thank you all, some great information here - I'll take a further look. :-)

A tree on Ancestry says that William married Amelia Beckhurst in Reading, Berks in 1832 - no proof offered, and I can't see any record of such a marriage - and that she died between 1861 and 1871, which would certainly fit with the censuses, but I can't see any record of that, either..

ADDED:
Actually, it says her father's surname was Beakeast, so this will be the birth the tree owner thinks is hers:

Amelia Beakeast
England Births and Christenings
Name: Amelia Beakeast
Gender: Female
Christening Date: 03 Mar 1811
Christening Place: MAPLEDURHAM,OXFORD,ENGLAND
Father's Name: James Beakeast
Mother's Name: Mary Ann Hannington
Indexing Project (Batch) Number: C13277-2 , System Origin: England-ODM , GS Film number: 887483

MORE ADDED:

Aha!
This will be the marriage they mean:

Amelia Beakhurst
mentioned in the record of William Ware and Amelia Beakhurst
Name: William Ware
Spouse's Name: Amelia Beakhurst
Event Date: 1832
Event Place: Andover, Hampshire, England
Indexing Project (Batch) Number: M05807-4 , System Origin: England-VR , GS Film number: 1041198 , Reference ID: 2:QHFSKC

Still no sign of a Stanbrook, though.

So far, I can't see births for Sarah Jane Ware/Stanbrook/Tolfree, or Ann Tolfree, nor a marriage of William Ware to an Amelia, nor a death of Amelia.

It could have been the name of a step-father as suggested, or depending on her age, the name of a previous common-law partner.

Have you back-tracked her through census?

Thanks for responses.. I think I read somewhere that it could've been a stepfather's surname... :-S

Hi there,

On a marriage certificate going back to 1877, the bride's name was Sarah Jane Ware and underneath it was written 'thereunto Stanbrook'.

What does this 'thereunto' mean?

Thanks for looking by!
