Why isn't there a death that I know about on the record list for 2009?
It was my child's father, we are pretty devastated. I was confident that he was alive and well, but find out a few days ago, that he had passed.
I'm angry that a site I used to have confidence in has let us down. :-(

You won't find deaths that recent in the records. Online births, marriages and deaths only go up to about 2007 and there are no plans to release any more as it is too expensive to have them transcribed and digitized.

As Kath says, there are no plans for GRO to release recent deaths ............

you MIGHT be able to find some information on ancestry by looking at the following sites, with the provisos noted

UK and Ireland, Find A Grave Index, 1300s-Current .............. information mainly taken from obituaries in newspapers, etc

United Kingdom and Ireland Obituary Collection ...... as above

UK, Select Cemetery Registers, 1873-2012

Dorset, England, Deaths and Burials, 1813-2010

You could also try Google

but this is one case where you cannot blame GR for not having the records!

If you know the area he died you would be able to get a copy of the cert from the local Register Office

If he died in 2009, as your post implies, it's taken someone a long time to tell you

Jax ..............

I think there is another thread on GR re All England and Wales death index 2007 -2013 ...........

the consensus seems to be that the information has been taken from death notices in newspapers ............. GRO does not use the honorifics Mr, Mrs, etc, nor do they put Postal Codes and exact dates of death

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 20 Apr 2015 20:27

I found the information on ancestry re the source ..............

Source Information
Ancestry.com. England and Wales, Death Index, 2007-2013 [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations, Inc., 2014.
Original data: GreyPower Deceased Data. compiled by Wilmington Millennium, West Yorkshire.

About England and Wales, Death Index, 2007-2013

This collection is a compiled index that covers approximately 55% of the total deaths that occured in this time period.

This index provides death details for people in England and Wales, specifically their name, gender, date of birth or age at death, date of death, and residence place at death. However, they do not include the General Register Office (GRO) reference information.

Question is ...............

who is / are Wilmington Millenium?

jax

jax Report 21 Apr 2015 00:43

I don't know of many people that have died in that period.... But did find an old friend on iannounce that died early 2013 and he isn't on there

No idea who they are Sylvia

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 21 Apr 2015 01:29

well, they do say "approximately 55% of the total deaths" during that time

I didn't find my aunt who died in 2011, nor a friend who died in 2008

Kense

Kense Report 21 Apr 2015 08:00

Wilmington Millenium is a company that includes the function of compiling lists of deaths for marketing purposes. That is so that subscribing companies can update their emailing lists to supress mailshots to people who have died.

Thank you everyone, I wasn't aware that it was only until 2007.

He was estranged, I thought she was now old enough, at 17, to create a relationship herself. We approached his family first, only to find we were 6 years too late, as he had died at 41.

Again, thank you everyone x
