So to a certain extent both sites have something to contribute.

If you were to register with FMP and Search for Hampshire (or any other record) someone with a sub would be happy to look at the details. Its worth mentioning that FMP offer a 14 day free trial. During the year they've had special offers such as 1 month for £1. GR members often mention the necessary codes on the boards.

Some UK libraries have a FMP sub which visitors can use- its worth enquirying at yours.

For information. I have just checked FMP for a baptism in 1803 and a marriage in 1807. Both are index only.

Some years ago I made a day-trip to Winchester (Hampshire Records Office) to find and view a number of records - including those two. At that time they were not available online except in the IGI. I did want to see if there was any additional data on the records.
For the baptism - was the fathers trade & abode stated - No.
For the marriage - was the bride a widow - Yes.

If Winchester is too far away it may be worth your while contacting them to see if they can provide a copying service?

Edit/Addition
FMP search for baptism of SMITH 1800
130 hits of which only a handful have images, and they were either Non-Conformist or Quaker.

David

I've got the Hampshire G S discs. I went to have a look at the 'original's ' in Portsmouth and found I was not getting any more information than what was on those discs.

I was very lucky that one of the records on the disc gave me a grandparents name which led me to another county. I've not seen that on any of the other transcripts.

even the free site familysearch often does not have any more than a transcript, and image not available

It's been ages since I used those discs. Eventually found the right one and the marriage is only an index. Yu were lucky to get the extra info as I found no more information when I looked. I think it was just the lists of BT's on file.

The baptisms are much better.

The discs end in 1837.

There used to be something like a black Sheep index for the area. I'll add it as an edit if I find it. Edit: www.knightroots.co.uk
