FindMyPast (commonly called FMP for short) has a lot of Australian records ...... but is a subscription site.

trove is a site where you can search Australian newspapers, and is free .........

http://trove.nla.gov.au/

then you can access some State bmds, some are free others are not

just google name of state + bmd (eg Queensland bmds) and see what comes up in the way of State Government site.

what a great day. Took on advice from everyone and found Albert and fanny under laptis but looking at original it is loftis wooohooo !

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 16 Mar 2016 21:50

I've found it all on Ancestry.co.uk

You wouldn't find really recent records there, though - it only goes up so far.

If you were to edit the title of this thread to include mention of Australia, it might attract the attention of helpers in Australia, who might have access to local records - I'm not sure what they can access.

And was still there in 1977.

Photo of Ernest Curtis - who died in Grimsby 2001, so also returned from Australia:

There are also other photos of both Ernest and Edna on Ancestry.

ArgyllGran Report 16 Mar 2016 17:52

A tree on Ancestry says Edna married Ernest James Curtis, and died in Grimsby in 1998.

Travelling on the same voyage as F Loftis in 1963 - this explains why Fanny went to Australia:

E Curtis
in the Fremantle, Western Australia, Passenger Lists, 1897-1963
Name: E Curtis
Gender: Female
Birth Date: abt 1914
Birth Place: England
Departure Place: Tilbury, United Kingdom
Arrival Date: 6 Aug 1963
Arrival Place: Fremantle, Western Australia, Australia
Age on Arrival: 49
Vessel: Oronsay

Also husband E Curtis, 48, chemical su.

All intending to remain permanently in Australia, but Edna at least must have returned later.

Annie Report 16 Mar 2016 17:20

She was born in1890 in Grimsby her first husband was William Henry Hutchinson her maiden name was Howell. She married loftis in 1948 but she married William in 1910 and according to the papers her marrage only lasted a year as she was having an affair. Theres one daughter to the marriage Edna Hutchinson that I know of definitely. My thoughts are that she stayed with William and had further children to him but I'm not sure.
Thanks for all your help
Annie

???? A widow, moving to Australia permanently, last permanent address England.
(Although, if this the right person, she should be somewhere on the 1939 register in UK - unless, of course, the record's closed, as previously suggested.)

Did she have relatives in Australia, Annie?

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 16 Mar 2016 08:18

If she died in Australia, the death is often not listed on the 1939 and possibly why it's closed?

Name: Fanny Eliza Ann Loftis
Birth Year: abt 1890
Age: 78
Death Place: Western Australia
Father's name: Benjamin
Mother's name: Fanny
Registration Year: 1968
Registration Place: Wellington, Western Australia
Registration Number: 66/68

Typo Sylvia. There's a 100 year closure, so currently 1915.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 16 Mar 2016 00:39

what is her birth date?

that is often the clue to finding entries on the 1939 Register, as there are many mis-transcribings.

Plus, some people have found to be still closed even though they were born before 1925 because there is no certified death for them.

hi I'm researching Fanny Eliza Ann Hutchinson nee Howell from Grimsby. I know she was estranged from her husband and lived with a man called Loftis who she later married in 1948 but I cannot find her on the 1939 census. Ive been looking for quite a while and any help would be appreciated. I have access to the census but cannot find anything
Thanks Annie
