well not the Cradley one I posted as that was the death in 1917, so if he served in Russia 1918 can't be him.

From a PM

Thank you for that info. This ties in exactly with what I know. He served on the Russian front in 1918. I have pages from his diary, which describe awful scenes. We are trying to trace relatives to decide how to deal with the diary.
..........

Donald , its not exactly clear which of the above records you believe to be correct. Does the diary mention any family names to clarify or give leads? Birthdays? If not his own, then his siblings/parents?

Please reply on the thread, not by Private Message. That way everyone can help you find relatives, if any, to pass the diary on to.

I'm not sure that the Soldiers Died Great War recorded posted by Rose (above) is the same man?

According to the Register of Soldier's Effects for that man his widow was Harriett.

I would assume from the fact that neither ancestry nor FMP have any records other than the Medal Cards, that the service records are among the 70% that did not survive WW2.

Over 70% of WW1 records were destroyed during WW2 bombing. There is nothing obvious with that Regiment and number.

How sure are you about the regiment? This matches the service number, but other details not exactly as you've posted
