For England 1841 on Ancestry, go to
http://search.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=8978
and pick the
Browse Individual Records
link in the left hand column, then enter the detauls e.g., Lancashire, then Hindley, and there's a link to the Hindley workhouse census records.

For later years, it's easiest to specify the district (Wigan) and the subdistrict (Hindley) (or, alternatively, the place) and the relationship (usually inmate, but could be pauper).
NB Inmate can pick up some prison or asylum inmates, and sometimes hospital inmates (but not in Hindley).
Incidentally, Hindley subdistrict also includes Ince and Abram.
Once you've gotten one hit, you can browse thru the adjacent images.

After 1856, some discharges via deaths might be found via:
http://www.wiganworld.co.uk/stuff/cemetery.php?opt=cemetery and
http://www.wiganworld.co.uk/stuff/incecemetery.php?opt=incecemetery
E.g.,
Surname Forename Age Place of Death Date Year Notes Grave Cremation Religion
Taylor Ann 46 yrs Wigan Workhouse 29-Jan 1857 E 239 R C
[Date is date of burial]

but I've never come across a Hindley Workhouse burial.
[Hindley municipal cemetery opened in 1880]

My relative is Jane Rannicar. She was born 1839 in Wigan. In the 1841 census I can find a child of this name but can't find her parents. Her Father was Thomas and her mother Ann. Thank you so much. I am not in Ancestry. x

If you have access to Ancestry, search for any name living in Hindley; then view the image, click on Hindley (at the top of the image), click on Hindley in the drop down list and the workhouse is shown at the bottom of the Enumeration District List. That will bring up the images for the workhouse.

Not sure how you would do it on other sites.

Hindley WH came under the Wigan Poor Law Union

http://www.workhouses.org.uk/Wigan/

From that link, it doesnt seem that the admin/discharge books have survived.

Who were you looking for in the 1841 census? Remember that their ages could be 'out' by c5 years. Some institutions only listed inmates by initials.
