My great grandfather , William Griffith/s was born about 1869 in Bryncroes, Caernarvonshire, North Wales. I have found him in the 1911 census living with his wife, Ann and children, Mary age 13, Ellen aged 12, Ann aged 10, David aged 8 and Evan aged 5. They have been married for 15 years. However he is not to be found in the 1901 census even though Ann his wife is there with the children and describing herself as wife . They were living in Tan y Bryn, Rhiw in 1901 and at Erw, Rhiw in 1911. I have looked through the 1901 census on here and have been unable to find him. ANY IDEAS ON WHAT TO DO NEXT ????

As he's an agricultural labourer in 1911, it seems unlikely that he was ever at sea, although that could explain why we can't find him in 1901.
There's this record from 1903 - this William is an AB - address 7 Union Street. That's the same address as Evan Jones,48, further down the crew list - Evan is also born in Pwllheli:

The address 7 Union Street is just a lodging address in Liverpool, I think.
In 1901 Evan Jones is with his wife Jane in Ynyscynhaiarn

Could it be that your William's son Evan was named after him?? (I know it's a common name.)

Argyllgran - I am almost sure that you have found my William Griffith for me in 1901 and also in 1881. I will double check my records to make sure. Regarding the marriage these are not my ancestors as Ann's surname before marriage was either Pritchard or Richards. I already have their marriage certificate to verify this. Regarding William being at sea you could be right actually as his father was a seaman as well. I will research this further.
