If you think you've registered, check your emails. You should have been sent a one-off code to enter the first time you log on to the site. After then it can be discarded.

Have you actually registered first?

On that first link given by Chris, you'll see "Register as an individual" below the places for putting in email and password. Click on that, and register.

Once you've registered, then you can log in.

When you've logged in, click on "Search the GRO Indexes".

When I go there it gives me HMS passport Office and to the right there are other things and if I click on Births and adoptions. I just don't understand how to do it.

It's just the maiden names I am interested in. My gt gran had so many children I wanted to make sure they were all hers.

I have tried but it seems to ask for my email and password. I put that in and made up a password but it won't let me in.

I exspect I am not in the right place or just too old to learn!!!!!!!!!!

I don't have FMP.

EDIT:

Oops! Sorry - senior moment!
I've been telling you about the 1939 register, not the GRO Index!
I've deleted it.

Can anyone use this and is it free please?

Do you have to have FMP?

Is it available on Ancestry?
