Check if the assumed father had paid maintenance. If he had, he'd have agreed that he was the birth father.

Well she can add his name making it look like they are married

If the woman admits to be single then the father needs to admit to being the father either by attending the registration or making a declaration acknowledging paternity

Can I ask very quickly can an unmarried mother put a father's name on the birth cert. without his knowledge please?
