Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 18 Oct 2011 05:02

I had a special harness that strapped my carrycot body into the back seat of the car, altho I don't think there were seat belts in there (early 1980s but the car was 1974 Avenger. Of course when I stopped using the carrycot I had child seats fitted so my son was always strapped in safely. If he was sleeping in the Moses basket and I didn't want to wake him I would wedge the basket into the carrycot base in the back of the car and put the apron on it so he was pretty secure then. Well he survived the trips anyway

Ann

I have only shown them once ,transport being a difficulty .
I have been asked to show my dolls prams at Abbey pumping Museum Leicester in December .

I am now saving up for a twin pram from the 50/s if I find one as we now have twins in the family.

I also have a Gresham Flyer 3 wheeled bicycle with a barrow on the back from 1954/5 which I will also be taking.

Brian I have a brown Silver Cross with matching canopy and and bag.
I bought it a few weeks ago from a lady who had bought it to put her reborn doll in it , but she changed her mind when she saw the doll in it .

We still have our brown Silver Cross bought in 1976 which I got new wheels for when our grandson was born in 2009.

The wheels cost £30 each !

No prospect of any more family use foreseen, so it'll have to be sold in a few years.

Any bidders?

Many a time i put the carrycot on the back seat without it being strapped in.
Makes me cringe to think about it now! :-S

Quoy, besides collecting them because you like them, do you do it for a reason? i.e. do you exhibit them? Do talks about them?

AnninGlos Report 16 Oct 2011 17:48

Yes I remember in 1961 and 1967 putting the carricot on the back seat, wheels in the boot if going to see Mum. In 1967 we did have seat belts so it was fastened in.

PricklyHolly Report 16 Oct 2011 16:02

Thankyou for that Quoy.
I don't know the exact model. It is brown with a cream interior.
It looks quite similiar to the purple one in your picture.

I've got the frame down and just wheeled it round the garden a couple of times!! :-D

the curse of chrome

when you do get it down clean the chrome with fine grade wire wool and soapy water this should bring it back up to nice and shiny again.

Make sure you dry it thoroughly .

Before you put it back lather the chrome with Vaseline this will stop any more rust.

Which model Marmet is it ?

PricklyHolly

PricklyHolly Report 16 Oct 2011 13:50

I still have my Marmet pram Quoy.

If and when i can persuade someone to climb up into the rafters of the garage and fetch it down for me, i will take a photo and put it on here.

It was in great condition when i put it up there........but i am a bit concerned now.
I have just looked at the silver frame and there appears to be quite a few flecks of rust on it!! Boo hoo!!

It was my pride and joy! :-)

The 70's Wilson's ,Silver Cross and Marmet are all in the attic as the body detaches from the carriage

The 40's 50's and 60's leather strap Osnath's ,London Baby Coach , Marmet Silver Cross . Royale and Millsons are in 2 garages

There are 3 dolls prams on the spare bedroom

In the dining room I have a London Baby Coach for everyday use and 3 dolls prams which the grandchildren use.

In the shed are 2 prams in the "I'm going to fix them up stage"

On the garden is a small white tin pram with a pink flowered plastic hood that my youngest granddaughter uses as her shopping trolley.

I have just come back from a car boot with a carry cot and transporter

Who remembers putting the carry cot on the back seat of the car with the baby in . No seat belts in those days .

Coach built prams are enormous. Modern houses, unlike Uncle Bill's, don't have room to keep one. Where do you keep your collection?

ChrisofWessex Report 16 Oct 2011 11:15

I just googled Silver Cross - still making the coach built prams - prices appear to be around £1000 and up.

Wish I still had mine, that's for sure.

Hang on to them if you have them.

Lavender, you can understand why I grabbed that pushchair for a tenner, when I had the chance. If my son doesn't get to need it, I would sell it then I suppose but there is plrnty of time for him to start a family and use it altho I will be a crotchety old dear if he doesn't get a move on!

I looked on the site Lavender and they do smaller prams which can turn into pushchairs, you know the kind where the foot part drops down. That's what my old one was like and also the newer one which I bought more recently just in case my son decides to settle down and start a family any time soon.

I think they were around £500+
