If we did make contact with ET, how long do you think it would be before we got a website called Aliens Reunited? I can just imagine aliens posting threads asking for information about their missing loved ones. "He was last seen in the Roswell area of America in the 1940s". :-D

I sometimes have difficulty in tracing intelligent life locally.

But I suspect that I will be pleasantly surprised to discover that residents of distant planets will be as civilised, humane & trustworthy as our bunch of politicians, if not more so.

Being a monolingual nation, the UK will have a distinct disadvantage in doing business with a universal market.

Graham..... that sounds like my internet connection :-(

Maybe they've been watching us for centuries, waiting for us to become civilized.

The nearest star (apart from the sun) is 4 light years away. It's called Proxima Centuri. If we sent a message to Proxima Centuri it would take 4 years to reach any aliens that might be listening. It would take another 4 years for their reply to reach us. That would be one very long, tedious conversation.

Hi maggiewinchester,

I was thinking of something more remote, perhaps radio waves etc.

I read an article on April 1st of this nature and was fooled, but the article made it sound believeable.

Well, never say never.
However, the way world governments act at the moment it will either be 'shoot first ask questions after', or a lot of 'it's mine, I saw it first' on an international scale :-|
So what may have started as intelligent life from another planet will either end up dead, or decide the human race (thanks to our 'representatives') isn't civilised enough, and go back home - because it's intelligent!

Hi,

Does anyone believe we will ever have contact with intelligent life from outside our planet (if we haven't already).
