Sorry Huia,

I used to clean a 'gold' chain by putting it in a saucer with a little vinegar for a few seconds, then rinse it clean. It came up nice and shiny.

Bobtanian

Bobtanian Report 31 Oct 2014 21:08

dunno are they acidic?

Sharron

Sharron Report 31 Oct 2014 21:06

Well, it will be the dates won't it?

Bobtanian

Bobtanian Report 31 Oct 2014 21:04

I wonder what the active ingredient is in that lot?

spirit vinegar
water
glucose/fructose
syrup
molasses
malt vinegar (from barley)
sugar
dates
modified cornflour
rye flour
salt
spices.........flavourings

my money is on the vinegars.......

be very aware of the crooks and nannies

Huia

Huia Report 31 Oct 2014 21:01

It is possibly the vinegar in the sauce. Try a bit of white or brown vinegar.

I'll try that, thankyou!

I have some "horse brasses", on two belts. There are horrible green bits in the nooks & crannies & they look horrible.

By the time I've got the brasses off the belts, tried to clean them, and replaced them, half a day has gone. :-(

Sharron

Sharron Report 31 Oct 2014 20:08

I tried both for Fred's medals and it would be brown sauce every time for me.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 31 Oct 2014 20:04

HP Sauce :-D

true ..............................

but why don't you use a little brush with the brasso to get it into the nooks and crannies

old toothbrushes work just fine

and then you scrub the brush over the brass and into the nooks and crannies under running water to get rid of the Brasso

SheilaSomerset

SheilaSomerset Report 31 Oct 2014 19:58

Is there another way to clean brass other than 'brasso'? Something that gets into nooks and crannies and can I 'scrub' it?
