I have just replied to the email I got from GR on Tuesday, as follows. I wonder if they will reply??

-----
Dear xxxxxx

Thank you for your reply, useless though it was.

I usually empty my cache regularly, but did it again "just in case".

No improvement. In fact, the problem is getting worse.

May I suggest that you take the time to look at this thread on the General Chat Board, and see how many people are reporting problems with the Error Message in all kinds of ways, and that I am not the only one with problems with opening My Threads.

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/general_chat/thread/1357268

We are all in different countries, using different browsers including Chrome, which appears to be GR's favoured one. If Chrome and Firefox do not work correctly on GR, which browser will?

I have no problems with Firefox on any other site .......... including FB, FMP, ancestry etc etc. It has to be a GR problem, whether you can replicate it or not.

There is a definite feeling in the community that GR is being run down into the ground as company efforts are concentrated on FMP. I was told last year by a GR staff member that GR was being left to the members ......... however, we cannot improve your connection skills on the site without learning how to be hackers and breaking into GR's system.

Sincerely
------

Why don't those who can, post a link to this thread on GRs facebook page?

Bombard them with complaints!

Just a thought.........

"My Threads" seems to be broken regardless of browser, operating system or connection type. At least it shows somebody is working on the site if only to screw it up.

If it's not fixed in a week then prob never will be. The broken search has never been fixed, tree printing was removed rather than fix it, the map feature was also removed when the code was too difficult for the bunch who made the wonderful improved new version.

Very annoying.

I might imagine a plot for a death by a thousand cuts (ok a dozen or so) before those remaining are made some sort of intro offer to join FMP and move to FB chat. That would suggest a degree of customer awareness not usually a feature of GR.

I too have now got stuck with failure of the "All threads" link. I found that if I clicked the "watched threads" link (and got on), then clicked the "back" arrow I arrived at "all threads"! Don't know how long it will last, but if it helps any of you......

I have just got the error message when replying to an inbox message

Didn't do what I have done in the past and gone back a page and pressed send again as have noticed in the past that the message then goes twice
YEP checked in the sent box and it had gone

What I don't understand is the error message says it has been logged so why can't genes see what the logged info says ???? :-( :-(

BrianW ..............

the short answer is nope

Most of the staff seem to have been moved over to FMP

Several of us (including me) were told last year that the site was up to the members

They don't look on here. Even RR'd posts seem to be removed automatically without reading them when they do get around to dealing with them

They don't even reply to posts on the FB page except when there are queries about problems or accounts when they give the support email address.

They didn't even put up a main item on that FB page between November 12 and December 29

I emailed them about my Error problem, and posted the response earlier on this thread.

Today I made sure that my cache was cleaned out, now having to sign in on all the sites that I usually automatically enter .............. but it has made no difference to the Error message.

I do not intend to get another internet browser just for GR, so I shall continue to ho on the individual Boards, and hope I don't miss any posts

Still can't get the "My threads" link to play ball after a week and a half (I think: I've lost track of time, it's been so long).
Is there ANY tech support in existence?
If this were a free site or run by an amateur club I could understand but it seems to be a commercial site run by amateurs who look in once a month or less!
And YES, I am a little peed off.......!!

That message is awfully familiar :-(

I think it's the "same old, same old" response I've received for just about everything!

It's useless, and insulting.

I emailed them about my problems with the Error message yesterday, and got a reply this morning :-0

-------
Thanks for getting in touch, and I'm sorry to hear of your problems.

We have tested this and have not been able to replicate the issue you have reported.

Please could you try clearing your cache? This eliminates saved internet files on your system. Depending on how many cached files you have stored on your computer, doing this can speed up your system slightly. Cached files will soon accumulate though, so it's important to clear your cache often.

This link should help:

http://www.wikihow.com/Clear-Your-Browser's-Cache

If this does not resolve the issue then we would suggest accessing the site using a different internet browser to the one you are currently using.

If you need any more help, please let me know.

same old same old :-(

I clear my cached files once a week ........... and did it last week, but it made no difference to the problem on here.

so I guess they are saying that I should now move to Chrome :-P

The news that FriendsReunited is closing down in about a month made the media today ......... but it was first announced back in December when a Group was started on FR by Steve Pankhurst. DV Thompson had asked Steve if he would buy back FR, and he has apparently been involved with that site for the last 2 years, but found it impossible for it to continue

http://www.friendsreunited.co.uk/friendsreunited-sunset/People/6e6ee4da-4c42-4e43-81d0-a57d0117ff22

The Group is called FriendsReunited Sunset, and this comment he made in response to members is very interesting

.......... and alarmingly like GR

----------
I have seen people ask about saving the boards. However, this is close to impossible. The code behind the FR site has been written, changed and hacked about for over 15 years by many different people and companies. I wrote the original back in 2000, and some of that even still exist. As you can imagine it's a bit of a mess by now (understatement!) and needs a huge amount of effort to make any significant changes to it. I no longer personally have the skill set to do so, and 2 years ago the whole development team left leaving just one developer and myself (and Will in support) to take over. The developer has since left leaving no tech support. I could find someone - and that is hard in itself as the technology is old and no-one wants to work on it. But it would cost a lot.

The site already costs many thousands a month to support and maintain with little advertising income. Therefore you can see the reason for the closure is mainly down to it not being financially or technically viable to continue it.
