Island Report 26 Sep 2016 18:18

LG, I've just read you 2nd Sept post. I completely agree - I think I'm 'it' at the moment :-|

How I wish GR would tell RR's to 'man up'.

Sylvia, just getting ahead. I know but it's good to have a rant for others to see.

Island Report 26 Sep 2016 18:12

Please get rid of the report button. It is being abused.

On my request you reinstated one of my posts last month. Should all of those who fall victim do this?

It seems posts/threads are being removed just to save time for whoever deals with reports. I believe malicious reports are made simply to upset other members.

Caroline Report 7 Sep 2016 01:27

the abuse contact is the one I've had replies on...albeit pointless replies :-S

SylviaInCanada Report 7 Sep 2016 00:45

:-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

Boy, do I understand!!!!

OR rant in an email to GR, where they might read it :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

LaGooner Report 6 Sep 2016 20:42

I just fancied a rant Sylvia, better on here than to take it out on the family :-D :-D :-D :-D

StephenGodfrey Report 4 Sep 2016 16:50

SylviaInCanada - dead right.
The site has gone to pot.
here is another email address that you can try to get results. :-\

SylviaInCanada Report 2 Sep 2016 19:17

LaGooner .................

There is absolutely no point in posting ANYTHING on this Board.

GR staff said they would no longer be monitoring it over a year ago :-(

The only way to get any response from them seems to be to email them at

LaGooner Report 2 Sep 2016 09:35

Please do not remove reported threads until you read the contents properly. Just because one person does not like the content and reports does not mean that the whole thread should be lost to others who are discussing and giving their opinion about the subject. Surely you must have record of who is doing the reporting all the time and if it is the same person they should be reprimanded.
This nonsense is putting people off using your site which is a shame as a lot of elderly and housebound as well as other members enjoy a chatter and a debate.

SylviaInCanada Report 9 Aug 2016 21:02

GR staff no longer look at this thread so it is useless to post on here.

The only people who look are one or two members, and we cannot help you.

As it is, the suggestion you made has been made many times before, and has never been acted upon.

some of us will tell you that we never actually log off

others will tell you to be patient ....... people have received replies as many as 8 years after sending it.

Whatever .................. there is no point in posting on this General Suggestions thread, or even on this Suggestions Board.

David Report 9 Aug 2016 08:57

Extremely frustrating trying to contact someone and not getting a response! May I suggest you have a "date last logged on" linked to that person. This way we would have some indication if the member is still active on GR (other sites have this feature). Thanks
David J.

ArgyllGran Report 11 Jun 2016 18:21

Good idea, Lisa - but doubt very much that the thread is being monitored by anyone any more.

It's over a year since the last reply from the then Community Manager, on this thread - and no action has been taken on any of our suggestions, on this thread or any other.

Lisa Report 5 Jun 2016 20:08

Not sure if this thread is being monitored by GR but I would like the search feature be accessible like a data base. It would be useful to be able to search for Person X living with Person Y (a bit like the 1939 register on findmypast).

Tabitha Report 15 Apr 2016 13:32

On the Help line - it says after the FAQ contact the support team - but there is no link

Thank you Sylvia for the info

It would be very useful if GR added this on the FAQ page too

However my idea is that they should have an established subscription price list as us Older members - In terms of length of time served on the boards & the system - been a member here since May 2003 - (not age) seem to all be paying varying amounts for our new subscriptions anything from £6.50 to £9.00 in very strange amounts of pence

I was emailed one amount - went to change my card in the system & was charged a different amount slightly higher than the quote - do you get a refund or could I get an extra 6-9 months added to my membership term?

ArgyllGran Report 16 Aug 2015 18:42

So . . . .
is anything likely to happen about it, Shelley (or Alison, or whoever the Community Manager is now)?

Community Manager Advisor Report 17 Feb 2015 10:23

Hi KenSE and ArgyllGran,

Thanks you for clarifying.

ArgyllGran Report 16 Feb 2015 22:57

Hello, Shelley -

I stopped using Quick Search a considerable time ago, because, as KenSe says, the results are not in any order.

If they were at least in chronological order, it would be helpful - with the most recent showing first in the list.

Advanced Search shows results in chronological order, so why not Quick Search?

So that's two suggestions now:
1. Add an "All boards" search option to Advanced Search.
2. Show Quick Search results in chronological order.

Kense Report 16 Feb 2015 19:51

The trouble with quick search is that it gives so many returns and the results are not in any obvious order.

It would be useful to be able to specify a year so that posts made before that year were not included in the results.

Community Manager Advisor Report 16 Feb 2015 10:26

Hi ArgyllGran,

There is a 'quick search' option on the left where you can enter a keyword. For example if you are looking for surname 'Jones' it will return a list of all threads which contain that name without you having to search individual boards.

Happy to discuss further if this is not what you had in mind.

ArgyllGran Report 2 Feb 2015 11:30

I've only just discovered that the suggestions roundups have restarted - I stopped looking after being told that they were discontinued.

My original suggestion, in May 2014, was:

Suggestion re "Advanced Search":
It's annoying to have to search each Forum individually for a particular phrase.
Please can we have an additional search option of "All forums"?

In September 2014 Shelley replied:

Implement Advanced Search to scan all boards
- Thank you ArgyllGran. We have an advanced search function, please let me know if you had something else in mind

Unfortunately you haven't understood my suggestion, Shelley.
Yes, I know there is an Advanced Search function.
But the drop-down list of boards to search only lists individual boards.

If you are looking for the name of a relative, for instance, it might be in a thread on any one of:
Genealogy Chat, Military Chat, Find Ancestors, or Find Living Relatives, depending on how accurately the thread poster has used the boards.

Currently, each of these has to be searched individually, which involves a very long wait each time, while the search results are produced.

If there were an additional "All boards" option, it would mean only one search and long wait.

Thanks very much for your help. Much appreciated :-D
