Carly Report 25 May 2010 11:14

Hi

Please forgive me if this is classed as a repost - I originally put something on the tips board.

I'm trying to find out if my GF had any other siblings - he was Scottish and i've managed to go back 4 generations via finding records and looking at census records but I'm really struggling to find anything more recent.

Maxwell (fna Mackie) Dowling born 28 Aug 1927 in Newmachar. His parents David Anderson and Edith Hector were married in Dyce on 28th Nov 1911. David was born Nov 1888 in Newmachar and Edith 30/04/1892 in Dyce

I've emailed both Dyce and New Machar parish Churches to see if they can help but just wondered if I was missing a trick.

People have helped me trace possible relatives on my GM side so just wondered if that was because she was English and they hold different records?

As i say apologies if i'm repeating myself but thought it worth a shot if people found GM information

If anyone could please assist me that would be great

Thanks in advance
Carly

rootgatherer Report 25 May 2010 12:07

Are you looking for siblings of Maxwell Dowling Anderson please? Just checking if I am reading your request properly.

If you are then searching for siblings born after 1911, especially with the surname Anderson could prove quite expensive. Scottish births after 1909 are only available by ordering actual certificates. They cannot be view online using Scotlandspeople. The only way to check if Anderson births in the correct area are Maxwell's siblings is by buying the certificates and checking if the parents match.

If you are lucky enough to be able to visit the Scotlandspeople Centre (New Register House) in Edinburgh then the daily fee to search Including these more recent records is £10. You can look at as many register entries as time permits. You cannot take prinouts of births prior to 1909, marriages 1934 and deaths 1959 but you many look at the entries and make notes.

EDIT

The most recent Scottish census available is the 1901, the 1911 will not be released until 2011.

Ellen, is there a charge for that please? Is the same cost as taking a printout? I have been through recently but tend to get the prinouts to have a paper trail in front of me as I find it easier to follow the line.

Staff will be on hand to help you get started with your searching if you need it and if you need more in depth help with your research you can book an assisted search with a member of staff who will sit with you for up to two hours helping you with your tree.

You can also print or save images to a memory stick so you will have a permanent reminder of your work.

The menu on the left will give you more information on any of these topics.
