The original image on the 1891 clearly gives the surname as Beales. But it looks like Emily was registered as Crane.

The M is for male Joan it's not his middle initial.

Yes that is right when the family moved to London they changed their name to Beales which is the mother's maiden name

Yes this is the marriage of Samuel and Elizabeth and their daughter Ethel Crane was born in Suffolk, also the other children start with the Crane name
