REBECCA & JOHN CHEESEWRIGHT

ProfilePosted byOptionsPost Date

Julia

Julia Report 29 Jun 2009 16:37

I have been very kindly sent a copy of the marriage certificate of the two above named persons. Rebecca was born in 1826/7 daughter of Daniel Turner, and she married John Cheesewright in 1852, in Whittlesey,Cambs. I have never been able to find either of them on a census, after the marriage, though I have a copy of a couple of the same names in the 1881. However, I do not think these are the same people.
Many thanks

Many thanks Wayne/Tracey, perhaps the enumerator didn't know how to spell Cheese. Can you find them on any subsequent census.
Again, many thanks

This must be the 1881 you mentioned. I just think the information has been transferred incorrectly. Alfred is there although his age is out he was born in Sutton Cambs.

Many thanks to you all. Astra, yes that is the one in 1881 I mentioned. It states John as being born in Cowbridge, America, and this was what put me off it being the correct one.
Again, many,many thanks to all

I think the Mary Ann Turner, visitor aged 26,in 1891, must be the daughter of one of Rebecca's brothers, but as yet have not found her birth. Still looking, but off now to fo the tea. Will have to be salad in this heat
Again, thank you all for your help

Jean Report 20 Aug 2010 21:01

Further to John and Rebecca Cheesewright-
They moved from Gosberton to Holbeach, Lincs. to farm on the Washway road. In 1905 his cousin John Spolton Cheesewright (my great, great grandfather) took over the farm and Rebecca lived with them to her death in 1912. My father was raised by John Spolton and Emma nee Cooper, at this farm which is still there today. John S died in 1919 and Emma left the farm to live with her children in turn. She died age 94 in 1945.

Jean, what a bolt out of the blue this was. I had forgotten I had posted this information, but many thanks for seeing it.
Do you know if Rebecca and John Cheesewright had any children. Such a shame if they did not, as her brothers all had several. Also, I have never been able to find the name of her mother, other than Mary from Rutland. Do you have any clues.
Many Thanks
